Barangay Manggahan held a community-wide clean-up drive on March 31, 2019 along the West Bank Floodway and Amang Rodriguez Lower Dike to support the Manila Bay Rehabilitation and Preservation Program. Over 68 volunteers participated in cleaning up 2 kilometers of waterways and collecting 150 sacks weighing 7,500 kilos of waste over 3 hours. Photos document the volunteers cleaning and the improved cleanliness of the areas after the drive. The event aimed to properly manage solid waste and promote environmental stewardship.

CLEAN-UP DRIVE
#BATTLE FOR ESTEROS & RIVERS

MARCH 31, 2019


INTRODUCTION

The Earth comes as the most important shelter for us and incoming
generations in the future. The universal should learn by heart that
we will not stay longer in this world and it will be inherit to a new
generations as the heir of conditioning. It means that we have only
one wonderful world and we share it together for years. We should
recognize the value of being kind.
The importance of good and clean environment cannot be
described adequately. According to many , the factor which
influences the growth of individuals most is environment. But
unfortunately, the various elements of environment such as, air,
water, land, etc., are polluted and contaminated.
As humans with responsibility, we need to make sure to keep our
planet clean. In order to implement this idea of keeping the
environment clean, a series of clean up drives was held by DENR
(Department of Environment and Natural Resources) in the month
of April and Community Service course participants also signed up
for the drive. The participants were divided into groups and a
schedule was made to begin the project
On the 31st day of March, Barangay Manggahan had a massive
Clean-up Drive at West Bank Floodway and Amang Rodriguez
Lower Dike , Manggahan. It was done for the benefit of Manila Bay
Rehabilitation and Preservation Program and Solid Waste
Management.

The purpose of tis program is to ensure solid waste managed in


such a way that protects both public health and the environment.
Through our teamwork and efforts of our group, we somehow
help the rehabilitation program of Manila Bay.

As an individual, we are obliged to take care of the things that God


gave us.
OBJECTIVES OF A CLEANUP
DRIVES

• To ensure the environment is safe, clean and healthy


• To ensure environmental sustainability
• To promote environmental awareness
• To restore community pride
• To promote local trade and tourism
• To restore wildlife habitats
• To engage communities in long term environmental initiatives.
• To eradicate diseases, such as dengue, cholera etc. which thrive in
dirty environments
WHAT ACTIVITIES CAN BE
UNDERTAKEN DURING THE
CLEAN-UP DRIVE

• Removing litter from public areas such as streets, parks,


waterways etc.
• Clearing illegal waste dumps which are usually heaped at street
corners and in sanitary lanes.
• Collection of recyclable material that can be sold to local
recyclers.
• Collection of waste (organic/inorganic).
HIGHLIGHTS OF
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
1. The Brgy. Solid Waste Management Department, Brgy. Task
Force Kaayusan Team, Maintenance Department, Brgy.
Peace Officer Department, Magic 5 (M5) and FHNAPICO
TODA , work hand- in-hand in cleaning and by proper
waste management segregation. Solid waste management
and disposal to give emphasis on intensifying
environmental sanitation and healthful living.

2. The clean-up team started at 7:00 am in the morning and


ended at 11:00 am with the utmost participation of the
team willing to contribute progress and change in the com-
munity.
3. Waterways covered – Floodway

4. 68 Total Numbers of participants/volunteers participated.

5. Length of Waterways – 2 kilometers

6. Volume of Waste (organic/inorganic) collected
