enables individuals to deal effectively with the demands
and challenges of everyday life (WHO)

• Adaptive:- flexible in approach and is able to adjust to


different circumstances

• Positive behaviour:- finds a ray of hope, solution and


opportunities even in difficult situations

• A behaviour change or behaviour development approach
designed to address balance of three areas: knowledge,
attitude and skills (UNICEF)

• Adolescence is a critical period for the development of self


identity

• Handle issues of independence, intimacy and peer group


dependence

• Facilitate the physical, mental and emotional well-being of


an individual

• 1986, Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion: making
better health choices

• 1989, Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC):


education should be directed towards the development of
the child’s fullest potential
