CARPENTRY

may be defined as the process of making


wooden components. It deals with the building
work, cabinet making etc. Jointly, i.e.
preparation of joints is one of the important
operations in all wood works. It deals with
making joints for a variety of applications like
door frames, window frames, ward robes,
cupboards, stairs etc..

Push-Pull Rule

- flexible tape that


slides into a material
case and it is used to
measure irregular and
regular shapes.
Ruler

- a 12 inches graded
rule that is used for
measuring small
stocks.
Meter Stick

- used to measure
objects longer
than a ruler.
Calipers

- is a tool used for


measuring the
diameter of an
object.
MARKING/LINING
TOOLS
Pencil

- used to layout or
mark cutting or
reference lines.
Marking Gauge

- a marking gauge is
used to mark lines
parallel to a straight
edge.
Chalk Line

- is used to establish
straight line on a
surface.
Compass

- is used to scribe
arcs and circle on a
piece of stock.
Scratch Awl

- an awl with a sharp


point for scratching
guidelines on wood or
metal.

Try Square

- used to test the


squareness of small
pieces of stocks.
Combined Try and Miter Square

- is a combination of
45° and 90° in one
set.
Combination Square
- is similar in
appearance to try
square only that the
head can be slid and
clamped at any desired

meter and level guide.
Steel Square/Framing Square

- is used effectively
on various framing
works.
Spirit Level

- tool used for


testing vertical
and horizontal
alignment.
Plumb Bob

- tool used to test


the vertical
alignment of work.

irregular shapes
either in large or
small board.
Dovetail Saw

- small back saw


with a straight
chisel type handle
used to cut very
fine joints.

- a bit used to bore


holes in wood that
has a square tang,
fitted into and
rotated by a brace.
Expansive bit

- an adjustable bit
for drilling holes of
different sizes.
Drill Bit

- tool used for


boring holes either

C-Clamp

- a C-shaped clamp
having a screw
that is threaded
through one tip in
the direction of
the other tip.
Bench Vise

- a holding device

two jaws to hold

to a bar, one fixed
and the other
adjustable by
means of a screw
mechanism.
