Concrete Paving Technology

This document provides information on concrete paving technology presented by students at the National Institute of Technology, Raipur. It discusses different methods of concrete paving including fixed form paving and slip form paving. It also describes the advantages of slip form paving and the components involved, such as the placer/spreader and paver. Additional technologies covered include laser screed technology, vacuum dewatering concrete, and roller compacted concrete. The conclusion discusses some benefits of concrete pavement.

A
Presentation
On
CONCRETE PAVING TECHNOLOGY
Submitted for the Partial fulfillment of Professional Elective Curriculum for

Bachelor of Technology

Civil Engineering

BY : Under the Supervision of

Abhishek Singh (16114003) Dr. Alfia Bano

• There are two methods of paving with concrete:
• Fixed Form
• Slip Form
• In slip-form paving, a machine rides over the area to be
paved-similar to a train moving on a set of tracks.
• Fresh concrete is deposited in front of the paving machine
which then spreads, shapes, consolidates, screeds and float
finishes the concrete in one continuous operation.
ADVANTAGES:
• Uses low-slump PCC (Low-slump PCC (on the order of 0 – 75
mm (0 – 3 inches)) is necessary so that the fresh PCC is able
to hold its shape once the slipform paver has passed)
• High productivity (between 70 – 90 m/hr (230 – 300 ft./hr)
of 3.66 m (12 ft.) wide, 250 mm (10 inch) thick PCC surface
course.)
• Smooth riding surface (IRI on the order of 0.90 m/km or less)
PLACER/SPREADER:

They place a metered supply of PCC in front of the paver

PAVER:
• The paver usually performs screeding, consolidation and
initial finishing.
CONSOLIDATION:
• After screeding, the paver consolidates the fresh PCC using a
series of vibrators
FINISHING:
CURING:
• Curing Membrane sprayed up close
VACUUM DEWATERING CONCRETE
• Vacuum dewatering concrete is construction technique.
• Used to remove water from surface of concrete.
• Reduces w/c ratio.
• Increases Durability.
• Reduces Shrinkage.
COMPONENTS
• Filter Pad
• Vacuum Pump
• Water Tank
LASER SCREED TECHNOLOGY
• Laser scree technology is new technology in India.
• It is usually used for smaller construction project.
• It is Ride On machine
• It help in establishing grade
• Help in dispersing and consolidating of concrete.
• High accuracy and precision
WORKING OF LASER SCREED MACHINE
• It is four wheel drive machine.
• The 8 foot screed head is connected to 12 foot boom.
• It utilize 360 degree rotating platform with telescopic boom.
• The screed head help in cutting and levelling of the concrete.
• A vibrating beam is used for compaction of concrete.
• It has 2 receiver in screed head provided to get constant reference
to datum level
ROLLER COMPACTED CONCRETE
The steps involved in construction of concrete pavement is similar to that of conventional
method. These steps are –

• Preparation of RCC
• 2. Mixing
• Placing
• Compaction
• Curing
CONCLUSION
• Benefits of Concrete Pavement –
• 1. Suitable for Large Point Loads
• 2. Withstand Diesel Spillage and other Aggressive Materials
• 3. Suitable for cases in which Sub-grade Strength is Low
• 4. Comparatively Less Damage to the Environment
