Guided by Mr. K.S.Ravi Kumar (PH.D) Associate Professor by I.Chaitanya (18981A0451) J.V.Mandeep Reddy (18981A0452) A.Saran Varma (19985A0401)

This document describes a case study on designing a practical light operated switch using a transistor. It includes the circuit diagram, components like the resistor, LDR, transistor, LEDs. It discusses the working, advantages like low cost and energy saving, disadvantages like low sensitivity. Applications are in domestic, military, street and industry uses. The conclusion is that an automatic light operated switch can save power by only turning lights on when it gets dark.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
• Design a Practical light operated switch using transistor
CONTENTS:

• INTRODUCTION
• CIRCUIT DIAGRAM
• COMPONENTS
• RESISTOR
• LDR
• SOFTWARE ANALYSIS
• ADVANTAGES
• DISADVANTAGES
• APPLICATIONS
• CONCLUSION
INTRODUCTION
 It is very convenient to light a lamp in our absence in the
evening when it gets dark.
 This circuit can be used to light the staircase light, porch
light etc. using domestic ac supply.
 It is very inexpensive construction and we don’t have to
employ or depend anybody to put on the light when we are out
of station.
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:
COMPONENTS:

 RESISTOR

 TRANSISTOR

 LIGHT EMMITTING DIODES

 LIGHT DEPENDENT RESISTOR

TRANSISTOR:
 Transistors are manufactured in
different shapes but they have
three leads (legs).
 The BASE - which is the lead
responsible for activating the
transistor.
 The COLLECTOR - which is
the positive lead.
 The EMITTER - which is the
negative lead.
RESISTOR:
 Resistor is a passive component used to
control the current in the circuit.

 Resistance is given by the ratio of voltage

applied across its terminals to the current
passing through it.

 The resistance is measured in ohms.

 The low power resistors are comparatively

smaller in size than high power resistors
LIGHT DEPENDENT RESISTOR(LDR):

 An LDR as its name suggests, offers

resistance in response to the
ambient light.

 The resistance decreases as

intensity of incident light increases
an vice versa.

 It is made up of cadmium sulphate.

LIGHT EMITTING DIODE(LED)

• A light-emitting diode (LED) is a semiconductor light

source that emits light when current flows through it.

• Electrons in the semiconductor recombine with electron

holes, releasing energy in the form of photons.

• White light is obtained by using multiple semiconductors

or a layer of light-emitting phosphor on the
semiconductor device.

OUTPUT:
ADVANTAGES:

 Photo resistors are in low in cost.

 Light has a unique secondary optical design, lamp light

to the lighting area, further improve the efficiency of the
light, in order to achieve energy saving purpose.

life span is extremely high.

DISADVANTAGES:

 It is not so much sensitive device .

 LDR gives inaccurate result if working temperatures changes.

 Reverse blocking capacity is low.

APPLICATIONS:

 Domestic Applications

 Military Applications

 Street Light Applications

 Industry Applications
CONCLUSION:

By using automatic light operated switch

we can save the power because the lights are
on when its gets dark other wise lights are
off so there is no power wastage.
