Installing the OS with Ignite-UX

Why Install?

• A number of different situations may require an HP-UX OS install

• In all of these situations, HP’s Ignite-UX product facilitates the install process

IS THE ANSWER!
Install Sources

Ignite-UX supports several different install approaches

CoreOS CD Ignite-UX Server Ignite-UX Server

Installing from local “Pull Install” from an Ignite “Push Install” from an Ignite
media Server Server
Planning the Install

Careful planning is the key to a successful installation

Read the documentation!

Verify hardware compatibility
What is the hardware path of the boot disk?
What is the hardware path of the DVD drive?
What IP address and hostname will be assigned to the host?
Will you use LVM, VxVM, or the whole disk approach?
How much space is required in each file system?
How much swap space is required?
Which applications are required?
Which “operating environment” is required?
Which “install-time security bundle” is required?
Choosing an Operating Environment

• An Operating Environment is a collection of software, tested & licensed together as a unit

• Each Operating Environment contains:
− “Required” components, which must be installed
− “Recommended” components, which are selected by default, but can be deselected
− “Optional” components, which must be manually selected
• Only one OE can be installed on a machine

Choosing an Install-Time Security Bundle

During the HP-UX install process, it is now possible to select an install-time security
bundle, which uses HP Bastille to automatically lock down a variety of vulnerable network
services

Bundle Name Config File Effect on System Behavior

Sec00Tools N/A Install security infrastructure without applying
security
Sec10Host HOST.config Host-based lockdown: no firewall; telnet and FTP
remain enabled, but less common network
services are disabled in /etc/inetd.conf.
Sec20MngDMZ MANDMZ.config Lockdown: IPFilter firewall blocks all incoming
connections except common, secured,
management protocols
Sec30DMZ DMZ.config Full lockdown: IPFilter blocks all incoming
connections except HP-UX Secure Shell
