Concised Tutorial
CREATING A NEW PROJECT
1. Create/add a project in the Enterprise Project Structure (EPS/portfolio). Go to
Enterprise, click Enterprise Project Structure.
2. In the EPS dialogue box, enter/create a project (unique name preferable). Click “Add”
and create a project name (Aqueduct 7 Project). Then click “Close”.
3. In the File menu, click “New..” to create a project that to be stored inside the EPS that
you’ve created.
4. In the Create a New Project dialogue box, select the EPS that you’ve created, e.i. (Aqueduct 7 Project).
Once selected (highlighted in blue), double-click or click the plus sign (+).

6. Click Next. Enter the Project ID (unique alpha-numeric) and the Project Name. Click
Next.

7. In the Project Start and End Dates dialogue box, enter the start date in the Project Planned Start
and end date at the Must Finish By. If at this moment the said data were not finalized, we could
skip this portion and click Next. The dates could be established later upon developing the project.

8. In the Responsible Manager dialogue box, enter the data. Also we could skip this for
now and click Next.

9. In the Assignment Rate Type dialogue box, Standard Rate would be ok. Click Next.

10. In the Congratulations dialogue box, click Finish.

11. In the Projects tab, highlight the project that you’ve created, go to File, Open. Or you
can right click the project, then click Open Project.

12. After opening the project, the Activities tab will appear empty. Click on Group and
Sort menu, click Customize, then unclick Hide if empty, click Apply, then OK.

13. At this moment we are ready to create the WBS of your project or create the project calendar. It is recommended to
create a the project calendar before adding activities. We will first create the calendar, go to Enterprise, click Calendars. In
the Calendar dialogue box, click Project, click Add, select the Calendar from the Select the Calendar to Copy From (P6
database). Rename the calendar (AQ7_10HR/6D). Click Close.

14. Modify the calendar as per your project requirements, e.i. 10 hrs/day; 6 days/week. Click
Modify. In the Project calendar details, click on Workweek…, put 10 on weekdays, and 0 on
Sunday.

15. Click on Detailed work hours/day. Then click Workweek again. Put the timing of the working
hours each day. If 12 PM, click Nonwork, if 1 PM, click Work.Click OK, OK, Close.

16. After creating Calendar, create the WBS. Go to Project menu, click WBS or Alt+E+A to add WBS item,
rename. Create only general items at this moment, if there are similar/identical activities or sets of
activities, we could populate it copying to reduce time in typing and linking activities.

17. After creating the general WBS, we could start adding activities. Click plus sign (+) uppermost right corner or Alt+E+A to add
activities. Enter the name of the activity. Identify the type of activity (see item 4-General, Activity Type). If the activity is a
milestone, choose either Start or Finish Milestone, if not, retain the Task Dependent. For Duration Type, we will retain Fixed
Duration & Units. For the % Complete Type, retain Duration (Duration % Complete). The Calendar will be change to
AQ7_10HR/6D

18. To change the calendar to the project calendar that you’ve created, go to (1) Projects, (2) Defaults,
(3) Calendar, change the default calendar to AQ7_10HR/6D. (4) Click plus sign (+). Note: Change first
the default calendar to AQ7_10HR/6D before adding activities (recommended).

20. To change the default calendar to the project calendar that you’ve created, go to (1) Projects, (2)
Defaults, (3) Calendar change the default calendar to AQ7_10HR/6D. Click plus sign (+, see item 4).
Note: Change first the default calendar to AQ7_10HR/6D before adding activities (recommended).
