The Indian automotive industry is a major contributor to the Indian economy. It is large in size compared to other priority industries and has strong backward and forward linkages. The industry produces a wide range of vehicles from three-wheelers and commercial vehicles to passenger cars. Production of all types of vehicles has generally increased over the past several years. The auto component industry is also growing and plays a vital role in supporting the automotive industry.
