Philosophical Foundations of Curriculum

Philosophy is essential to curriculum because it determines the goals and principles that guide curriculum design. However, conflicts can arise when a curriculum worker's philosophical perspectives differ from the institution's. Some key philosophies discussed are idealism, which emphasizes language and experience; realism, which views the world objectively and influences content selection; and pragmatism, which is based on practical experience and consequences. While philosophies like existentialism and essentialism provide guidance, their application is limited. Educators must carefully consider which philosophies align with their views and are appropriate for their curriculum.
