Geotechnical Engineering II: Shallow Foundations-5

This document provides 3 examples of calculating vertical stress beneath point loads applied at various depths and distances from the point of application in geotechnical engineering. It gives the details of 3 example problems - estimating vertical stress beneath a 500kN point load at a depth of 2m, beneath a 500kN point load at a depth of 2m and distances of 1.74m and 1m longitudinally and transversely, and beneath a 1000kN point load at a depth of 5m and distances of 2m and 1.74m longitudinally and transversely.

Example 1
Estimate the vertical stress beneath a point load of 500 kN at a
depth of 2 m
Example 2
Estimate the vertical stress due to a point load of 500 kN at a
point at a depth of 2 m from the ground level and located at
1.74 m and 1.0 m in longitudinal and transverse directions from
the point load
Example 3
Estimate the vertical stress due to a point load of 1000 kN at a
point at a depth of 5 m from the ground level and located at 2.0
m and 1.74 m in longitudinal and transverse directions from the
point load
