Grade 5 Week 2 (Q2)

This document provides instruction on comparing and ordering decimals. It begins with the objective of comparing decimal numbers. It then explains how to compare decimals with different numbers of decimal places by making the number of places equal using zeros as placeholders. Examples are provided of comparing decimals using this method. The document also covers ordering decimals from least to greatest and greatest to least, with examples of arranging decimals in ascending and descending order. It concludes with math exercises for students to practice comparing and ordering decimals.

Comparing
Decimals
GRADE 5 MATH
We can compare decimals with
different number of decimal places by
making the number of decimal places
equal. Zeros are used as place holder.

GRADE 5 MATH
Example 0.1 > 0.01
Use zero to make the decimals equal in
number of decimal places.

0.10 > 0.01 is read “ten hundredths is greater

than one hundredths.”
GRADE 5 MATH
Example 0.5 > 0.005
Add two zeros to the first decimal to make
both decimals equal in number of decimal
places.
0.500 > 0.005 is read “five hundred
thousandths is greater than five thousandths.”
GRADE 5 MATH
Example 0.142 < 0.4
Use zero to make the decimals equal in
number of decimal places.
0.142 < 0.400 is read “one hundred forty-two
thousandths is less than four hundred
thousandths.”

GRADE 5 MATH
Arranging decimals from least to greatest, the
order should be:
