Biblical context of the third vocation:
“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your
heart, with all your soul, and with all your
mind.” (Matthew 22:37)
means: loving God engages:
the total person

ion=NABRE
person’s totality: engaged when:
one’s smallest desires, intentions & actions
all directed to the love of God
“Jesus never divided His life into
categories…God accepted Jesus’ total
life.”
no distinction between natural &
spiritual activities
“I do always those things that please the
Father” (John 8:29)
every act of His life was God’s.

Every act of our lives should be a
contribution to God’s glory.
“Whether you eat or drink, do all for
the glory of God.” (I Cor 10:31)
“In Him we live and move and have
our being” (Acts 17:28)

• St. Therese of Lisieux…lived each day with
an unshakable confidence in God's love
• "What matters in life is not great deeds, but
great love.“
• Therese lived and taught a spirituality of
attending to everyone and everything well
and with love
• Therese's spirituality is of doing the ordinary,
with extraordinary love…

Challenge of third sense of vocation:
In the different circumstances, situations &
challenges of daily life, no matter how
trivial, we must respond to God’s call to us
to become better human beings
…not chase sex, drugs, travel, houses,
fame, “likes,” retweets, and on goes the
list to the point of sedating ourselves
…but to pursue the supernatural high
that explodes interiorly from a personal
union with God
