Planning - is the process of thinking about the
activities required to achieve a desired goal. It is the
first and foremost activity to achieve desired results. It
involves the creation and maintenance of a plan, such
as psychological aspects that require conceptual
skills.
- a basic management function involving
formulation of one or more detailed plans to achieve
optimum balance of needs or demands with the
available resources.
Planning Process
- the development of goals, strategies, task lists and
schedules required to achieve the objectives of a business.
The planning process is a fundamental function of
management and should result in the best possible degree of
need satisfaction given the resources available.

- is the steps a company takes to develop budgets to guide


its future activities.
Situational Analysis – entails the gathering, interpretation, and
summary of relevant information for the planning issue under
consideration.

Alternative Goals and Plans – involve the generation of


choices and options for the identified problem/s in situational analysis.

Goal and Plan Evaluation – involves the assessment of


advantages and disadvantages of each goal, with the objective of
prioritizing, or even removing some of the options.
Goal and Plan Section – involves the selection of the
most suitable and viable option for the identified problem.

Implementation - entails the mobilization of resources


to put the chosen goal into operation.

Monitor and Control – involves the measurement of


accomplishments versus the goal, often requiring the
setting up of control systems to determine performance.
Strategic Management Process  - is an
ongoing process of five steps which defines the way
an organization makes its strategy to achieve its
goals.
- It is also defined as the process by which managers
make a choice of a set of strategies for the organization that
will enable it to achieve better performance.
A Vision Statement - describes the desired
future position of the company.

A Mission Statement - defines the company's


business, its objectives and its approach to reach
those objectives. 
- a declaration of the
purpose of the organization, and often defines
the scope of its operations in product, market,
and service terms.
Goals – are short-term directions, often stated in
specific metrics, such as geographic, periodic, and
other numerical terms.
Types of Planning
1.Strategic Planning - determining the major objective of the
organization.

2. Tactical Planning – concern primarily with the


implementation of strategic plans by mid-level management.

3.Operational Planning – which focuses on planning required


to accomplish the responsibilities of a specific managers job,
section, or department.
