that connects parts of a sentence .

There are mainly three types of conjunctions – coordinating ,


subordinating , and correlative .

I had a great time , but I wasn´t happy with Sandra. A coordinating conjuction connects words or phrases that are
independent or equal . They use the words : for , and , nor ,
I don´t know what to do , so I ´ll just sit quietly. yet , but , or , so ( fanboys ).

I ate an Apple and banana .

I had a great time . I wasn´t happy with Sandra. In each of these sentences , if you were to make the
conjunction ( underline ) out . You would have two sentences.
I don´t know what to do . I ´ll just sit quietly .

I ate an apple . a banana .

Thus , a coordinating conjunction joings two sentences together .

Today we are going to work with these correlative conjunctions .

They include : Correlative conjunctions are paired conjunctions that link


balanced words , phrases and clauses .
Both … and = I like both rabbits and parrots.
When you are comparing or contrasting, communicating that
You know , you need correlative conjunctions to sometimes
Neither … nor = I like neither rabbits nor parrots .
help you with your flow . Each of correlative words should
be place immediately before the words to be connected .
Either … or = I will either feed rabbits or feed the parrots.

A Correlative Conjunction , however , is used in pair . With a correlative conjunction , there are two joining words .
These joining words works as a team . LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING EXPLANATION AND EXAMPLES :

Both … and -- connect two people given the equal importance to both .
° Shakira sings in both languages Spanish and English It is always used with affirmative sentences . Talks about two elements
of a group of two. We use it with singular nouns .
° I colored both the picture and the walls .

° I ´m either going to the movie , or the dog park Either …or -- This conjunction , give us the opportunity to choose between
two options . You can only choose one , but they are on equal terms ,
° We can go either Cancun or Los Cabos this week. both are valid . Either means either of the two.

° I can have neither peanuts , nor walnuts . Neither … nor -- We use this conbination to deny people , things or situations
of the same importance “nor” is the negative of “or”. In this case rejects two
° Neither Carlos Rivera nor Belinda will sing in the concert possibilities . You must take into account that this conjunction project a negative
idea , the verb will generally go in this negative form . Neither means neither
( of the two ) .
Correlative conjunctions generally cannot make two sentences if they were going to be taken out .
The joining word work make the sentence correct , and without them the sentence is incomplete.

For example : ° I colored the picture . The walls .


° I ´ m going to the movies . The dog park .
° I can have peanuts . Walnuts . 26
In all these sentences , the first part makes sense while the second part does not . So for them to be one make sense .
These Parts require correlative conjunctions .
