• Lecturer for the Computer Science Department at UCCS
• Director of Networks and Infrastructure • Former Information Security Officer and HIPAA Security Officer • My main job as Director of Networks and Infrastructure is to manage the teams and technology that runs over a 12,000 student university • I’ve been in the industry over 15 years and know a thing or two about Networking and system management ABOUT THIS COURSE
• This course approaches the practical side of system management
• Since I have been doing this for a number of years, I see the value both in the practical and theoretical side of systems management • No special skills required • Anyone that is considering becoming a system admin or work in the computer field • One thing I often here: I’m stuck in my job and I don’t know what is out there that I might be good at. • Perhaps some of the stories will intrigue you. • This course dives into some of the topics you may face if you are thinking about a job in computer security or system management COURSE - MODULES
• Module 1 will introduce critical first steps in system management
• Module 2 will examine planning for enterprise system environments • Module 3 will explore auditing in the enterprise • Module 4 will dive into maintaining systems MODULES
• End of each module is an exam covering the topic we discussed
• Course project – hands on application of what you have learned. • You must achieve at least an 80% passing grade for your graded assignments to pass the course • There is no technical component, but I will show you how to set up your own lab should you want to get even more out of this course! • Enterprise system management covers a lot of different topics and areas. • I encourage you to explore on your own, topics that we may discuss. And like I always tell my students in the classroom, • “If you are trying to figure something out on your own and get stuck, chances are someone else has already successfully figured it out. Go look it up on the internet”. • My goal in this course is to give you some background and skills so you can choose your own path, experiment with new enterprise technology from your home, or just have fun with enterprise computing • See you in lesson 1
