Analog 2 PPT Project

This document describes an automatic irrigation system that uses a soil moisture sensor and 555 IC to control a water pump. The system senses the moisture content of the soil and turns the pump on when the soil is dry. This allows irrigation to be automated, saving time and reducing water use for farmers. The system includes a soil moisture sensor, 555 IC, water pump, batteries, resistors, and relay to control the pump based on soil moisture readings from the sensor. When soil moisture is low, the sensor triggers the 555 IC and relay to turn on the pump until the soil reaches a threshold moisture level.

Abstract

• In this project an automation of farm irrigation and soil moisture

control by 555 ic using soil moisture sensor module.

• This automatic irrigation system senses the moisture Content of the

soil and automatically switches the pump when the power is on.

• In dry areas or in case of lacking rainfall ,irrigation becomes difficult.

So, it needs to be automated for proper watering a plant and
handled remotely by farmer. When soil goes dry pump will start
watering.

• The aim of the implementation is to reduce water use and automatic

irrigation can be used for save time and low power monitor device.

• The soil moisture sensor is inserted in the soil. Depending on the quality of
the sensor, it must be inserted near the roots of the plant. The soil moisture
sensor measures the conductivity of the soil.
• Wet soil will be more conductive than dry soil. The soil moisture sensor
module has a comparator in it. The voltage from the prongs and the
predefined voltage are compared and the output of the comparator is high
only when the soil condition is dry. This output from the soil moisture sensor
is given to the analogue input pin of the microcontroller. The microcontroller
continuously monitors the analogue input pin. When the moisture in the soil
is above the threshold, the microcontroller displays a message mentioning
the same and the motor is off .
• When the output from the soil moisture sensor is high i.e. the moisture of
the soil is less. This will trigger the 555ic an appropriate the output of the
555ic, which is connected to the base of the transistor is high. When the
transistor is turned on the relay coil gets energized and turns on the motor.
The LED is also turned on and acts as an indicator.
• When the moisture of the soil reaches the threshold value, the output of the
soil moisture sensor is low and the motor is turned off.

Problems
 OverIrrigation.

 UnderIrrigation.

 Farm Lands & Fields situated miles away from your

home. Extensive travel required, sometimes several
times in a day to start & stop the irrigation water
pumps.

 Land is more, we need more manpower.

 As water supplies become scarce and polluted, there is a
need to irrigate more efficiently in order to minimize
water use and chemical leaching.

 Therefore this project is the best solution for this crisis.

 The primary applications for this project are for farmers

and gardeners who do not have enough time to water
their crops/plants. It also covers those farmers who do
not waste water during irrigation.
