Practical Research 1

Qualitative research is a type of research that focuses on qualities such as words and meanings rather than numbers. It emphasizes experimentally examining meanings, concepts, definitions, characteristics, metaphors, symbols and descriptions rather than measuring variables. Some key characteristics of qualitative research include that it is descriptive, focuses on process rather than outcomes or products, is inductive rather than deductive, and is concerned with meanings rather than measurements. Some common approaches to qualitative research include naturalistic, scientific/positive, and triangulation approaches.

TYPES OF RESEARCH
Based on Applications of Research Method
Pure research: it deals with concepts, principles, or
abstract things. This type aims to increase one’s knowledge
about something.

Applied research: The intention is to apply your

chosen research to societal problems or issues, finding
ways to make positive changes in society.
TYPES OF RESEARCH
Based on Purpose of Research Method
Descriptive research aims at defining or giving a verbal
portrayal or picture of a person, thing, event, group or
situation.

Correlational research shows relationships or

connectedness of two factors, circumstances or agents like
variables that affect the research.
TYPES OF RESEARCH
Based on Purpose of Research Method
Explanatory research elaborates of explains not just the
reasons behind the relationship of two factors, but also the
ways by which such relationship exists.

Exploratory research. Its purpose is to find out how

reasonable or possible it is to conduct a research study on
a certain topic.
TYPES OF RESEARCH
Based on Purpose of Research Method

Action research studies an ongoing practice of a

school, organization, community or institution for the
purpose of obtaining results that will bring
improvements in the system.
TYPES OF RESEARCH
Based on Types of Data Needed
Qualitative research requires non-numerical data, which means
that the research uses words rather than numbers to express the
results, the inquiry or investigation about people’s thoughts,
beliefs, feelings, views and lifestyle regarding the object of the
study.
Quantitative research involves measurement of data. Thus, it
presents research findings referring to number or frequency of
something in numerical forms.
