Science Week 6: Saturated and Unsaturated Solutions
A solution is a homogeneous mixture of one or more solutes dissolved in a solvent. It has two main components - the solvent, which dissolves the other component, and the solute, which dissolves in the solvent. An unsaturated solution contains less solute than the maximum amount that can dissolve at a given temperature, while a saturated solution contains the maximum amount of solute dissolved in a specific amount of solvent. A supersaturated solution contains more solute than can normally dissolve at a set volume and temperature.

SCIENCE WEEK 6
SATURATED AND UNSATURATED SOLUTIONS
SOLUTION
is a homogeneous mixture of one or more solutes dissolved in a solvent
COMPONENTS OF A SOLUTION 1. Solvent –component that dissolves the other component Water is a solvent that dissolves solid substances
2. Solute – component that dissolves in the solvent
Sugar is a component that dissolves in water. COMPONENTS UNSATURATED SOLUTION
• It contains less solute than the maximum amount it can
dissolve at a given temperature SATURATED SOLUTION
Contains maximum amount of Solute dissolved in a given amount of solvent
*At 20°C, the maximum amount of NaCl that will dissolve in 100. g of water is 36.0 g. When 40.0 g is added, 36.0 g dissolves and 4.0 g remains undissolved. SUPERSATURATED SOLUTION
Amount of solute is greater than the solute’s solubility at a
