PERIMETER OF A SQUARE = 4 x SIDE
PERIMETER OF RECTANGLE = 2(l + b)
PERIMETER OF TRIANGLE = A+B+C
PERIMETER OF A RHOMBUS = 4S
QUESTIONS
• Question 1.
The side of a square is 2.5 cm. Find its perimeter
• Answer: Side of the square = 2.5 cm
Perimeter = 4 × Side = 4 × 2.5 = 10 cm
• Question 2.
The perimeter of a rectangular field is 240 m. If its length is 90 m, find: its
breadth
• Perimeter of the rectangular field = 240 m
2(l + b) = 240 m
l + b = 120 m
90 m + b = 120 m
b = 120 m – 90 m = 30 m
So, the breadth = 30 m.
QUESTIONS
• Question 3.
Find the perimeter of a rhombus that has a side length of 10 units.
• Answer: The side length of the given rhombus, a = 10 units.
Its perimeter = 4a = 4 × 10 = 40 units.
• Question 4.
Find the perimeter of a triangle whose sides are of  6 cm, 8 cm and 12 cm.
• Answer: Given,
a = 6 cm
b = 8 cm
c =  12 cm
• Perimeter of a Triangle = a + b + c
= 6 + 8 + 12
= 26 cm
A R E A ? ?
• Square: Rectangle:
• Triangle: Example: What is the area of a
triangle with base b = 3 cm and height h = 4
cm?
• Parallelogram: Example: If the base of a parallelogram is equal to 5
cm and the height is 3 cm, then find its area.
• Rhombus: Example 1: Calculate the area of a rhombus having
diagonals equal to 6 cm and 8 cm.
QUESTIONS
• Question 1.
If the length and breadth of a rectangle are 36 cm and 24 cm
respectively. Find: Its Area
• Answer: Area of the rectangle = l × b = 36 cm × 24 cm = 864 cm2
• Question 2: Find the area of the square of side 16 cm.
• Side of the square = a = 16 cm
Area of the square
= a2
= 162 cm2
= 256 cm2
QUESTIONS
• Question 3: Find the area of the parallelogram with the base of 4 cm
and height of 5 cm.
• Answer: Given:
• Base, b = 4 cm
• h = 5 cm
• We know that,
• Area of Parallelogram = b×h Square units
• = 4 × 5 = 20 sq.cm
• Therefore, the area of a parallelogram = 20 cm2
QUESTIONS
• Question 4:
• Find the area of an acute triangle with a base of 13 inches and a
height of 5 inches.
• Answer: A = (½)× b × h sq. Units
• ⇒ A = (½) × (13 in) × (5 in)
• ⇒ A = (½) × (65 in2)
• ⇒ A = 32.5 in2

EXAMPLES
• Example 1:
• What is the circumference of the circle with diameter 4 cm?
• Ans: Since the diameter is known to us, we can calculate the radius of the circle,
• Therefore, Circumference of the Circle = 2 x 3.14 x 2 = 12.56 cm.
• Example 2:
• Find the radius of the circle having C =  50 cm.
• Ans: Circumference = 50 cm
• As per formula,  C = 2 π  r, This implies, 50 = 2 π  r, 50/2 = 2 π  r/2
• 25 = π  r
• or r =  25/π
• Therefore, the radius of the circle is 25/π  cm.
• Question 1:
• Find the circumference of the circles with the following radius:
(a) 14 cm
• (b) 28 mm
• ANSWER:
• (a) Radius of circle = 14 cm
• Circumference of circle= 2πr

• = 88 cm
(b) r = 28 mm
Circumference = 2πr

= 176 mm

• Question 3:
• If the circumference of a circular sheet is 154m, find its radius. Also
find the area of the sheet.
• ANSWER: GIVEN:- Circumference OF circle = 154m
• Circumference OF circle = 2πr =154 m

Area of circle = πr2 =

= 1886.5 m2

QUESTIONS
• Q1. A garden is 90 m long and 75 m broad. A path 5 m wide is to be built
outside and around it. Find the area of the path. Also find the area of the
garden in hectare.
Solution- Length of the garden (L) = 90 m
Breadth of the garden (B) = 75 m
Then,
Area of the garden = length × breadth = 90 × 75 = 6750 m2
From the figure,
The new length and breadth of the garden when path is included
is 100 m and 85 m respectively.
New area of the garden = 100 × 85 = 8500 m2
The area of path = New area of the garden including path – Area
of garden = 8500 – 6750
= 1750 m2
For 1 hectare = 10000 m2
Hence, area of garden in hectare = 6750/1000 = 0.675 hectare
• Q8. Arya wrapped a cord around a circular pipe of radius 4 cm
(adjoining figure) and cut off the length required of the cord. Then
she wrapped it around a square box of side 4 cm (also shown). Did
she have any cord left? (π = 3.14)
Solution:-
From the question it is given that,
Radius of a circular pipe = 4 cm
Side of a square = 4 cm
Then,
Perimeter of the circular pipe = 2πr = 2 × 3.14 × 4 = 25.12 cm
Perimeter of the square = 4 × side of the square
=4×4
= 16 cm
So, the length of cord left with Pragya = Perimeter of circular pipe – Perimeter of
square
= 25.12 – 16
= 9.12 cm
Yes, 9.12 cm cord is left.
