Science Class: 10 B Chapter: Electricity Topic: Experiment To Verify Ohm's Law

The document describes an experiment to verify Ohm's Law. The experiment involves setting up a circuit with a resistor, multimeter, and voltage source. Readings are taken at different resistances and plotted on a graph to show the linear relationship between voltage and current, verifying Ohm's Law.

Chapter: Electricity

Topic: Experiment to verify Ohm’s Law

Ohm’s Law
The potential difference, V, across the ends of a given
metallic wire in an electric circuit if directly proportional
to the current flowing through it, provided its
temperature remains the same.

Voltage = Current × Resistance

V=I×R
V = Voltage (Volts = V )
I = Current (Amperes = A)
R = Resistance (Ohms = Ω)
Objectives :
In this experiment I want to verify Ohm’s law by
proving that the relation between the current in the
resistance is a linear relation.

Apparatus:
• Resistance
• Multimeter
• Conducting wires
• Voltage Sources
Circuit Diagram :
Procedure:
1. Drawing the circuit diagram as shown above
2. Arranging the apparatus as per the circuit diagram
3. Cleaning the ends of the connecting wires with sand paper and
make them shiny
4. Making the connections as per circuit diagram. All connections
must be neat and tight . Taking care to connect the ammeter and
voltmeter with their correct polarity. (+ve to –ve and –ve to –ve)
5. determinig the zero error and least count of the ammeter and
voltmeter and record them.
6. Adjusting the reheostat to pass a low current
7. Inserting the key K and slide the rheostat contact to see whether
the ammeter and voltmeter are showing deflections properly.
8. Adjusting the rheostat to get a small deflection in ammeter and
voltmeter
9. Recording the readings of the ammeter and
voltmeter
10. Taking atleast six sets of reading by adjusting the
rheostat gradually
11. Plotting a graph with V along axis .
12. The graph will be a straight line which verifies
Ohm’s law
13. Determining the slope of V-I graph. The reciprocal
of the slope gives resistance of the wire.
