Enhancing/ Decorating Finished Products/-Enumerate The Fundamental Process in Handicrafts in Treating Bamboo

The document discusses various processes for treating bamboo before making finished products. These include chemically preserving bamboo with chemicals to prevent insect infestation, bleaching bamboo by exposing it to sunlight to remove color, and dyeing bamboo through applying colors. Other processes mentioned are pyrography which uses heated objects to burn designs onto bamboo, and leaching which involves storing bamboo in water. The document emphasizes that treating bamboo is important to prevent degradation and extend its durability for use in handicrafts and other finished products.

Enhancing/ Decorating

Finished Products/-
Enumerate The
Fundamental Process In
Handicrafts In Treating
Bamboo.
Review:
• What are the different
sources of finishing
materials, accessories
and design?
Motivation:
Show some pictures of finished products.

What finishing materials did they

use to beautify it?
Presentation:
• Without any protective
treatment, most bamboo
species have an average
natural durability of less than
2 years. Stored under cover,
untreated bamboo may last 4-
7 years.
Presentation:

• These variations in bamboo

durability strongly depend on
the species, the length of the
culm, the thickness of the
wall, but also, and equally
important, the time of
harvesting.
Presentation:
• There are processes and
treatments done on some
materials before making them
into articles.
• Treating Bamboos
• 1.Preserving and Treating
Using Chemical
2. Bleaching
3. Dyeing Bamboo
Poles and Splints
4. Pyrography
5. Leaching
1.Chemical Bamboo Preservation-
• Untreated bamboo, just like almost any
other wood, has a high chance of being
attacked by insects. Bamboo insect
infestation occurs due to the presence of
starch and other carbohydrates. Insects
obtain their food supply from the bamboo
and degrade it, therefore bamboo should
be chemically treated to avoid infestation.
2. Bleaching-
• It is the process of
whitening or removing
the colour by sunlight
exposure.
3. Dyeing Bamboo Poles
and Splints-
It is the process of
applying colours
into the material?
4. Pyrography or pyrogravure

Pyrography or pyrogravure is
the art of decorating wood or
other materials with burn marks
resulting from the controlled
application of a heated object
such as a poker.
5. Leaching
Leaching - Storing bamboo
in water or "leaching
bamboo" is a traditional
bamboo preservation
method, used by indigenous
communities and farmers
Discussion:
• Enumerate the fundamental
processes in treating bamboos.
• Discuss the following
processes in treating bamboos
• How do you preserve
and treat bamboos?
• What is bleaching?
• What are the two
methods in dyeing
bamboos?
Group Activity:
Group Activity:
•Group 1 – explain the process of
preserving and treating bamboos.
•Group 2 – discuss the two
methods of dyeing bamboos.
•Group 3 – what is the process of
bleaching?
Application:
• There are processes and
treatments done on some
materials like bamboo before
making them into articles. What
do you think will happen if there
are no processes in
enhancing/decorating finished
Generalization:
•What are the
processes in
treating bamboos?

c. pyrography
b.Leaching
d. preserving
5.In this method, chemical
is used to preserve the
bamboo.

Assignment:
• Assign pupils to search
through the internet
other processes needed
in enhancing/decorating
finished products.
