Introduction
Solving problems is a part of our daily lives, no matter who we are or what we do, whether we are students, employees,
or stay-at-home mothers. Every time we make a purchase or attempt to solve a mathematical problem, we employ calculations.
Learning how to solve problems is an essential part of everyday life, which is why we are taught to do so from a young age by
our parents, who begin with simple counting and progress to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in school as we
grow older. The good news is that with age comes the discovery that we have a variety of problem-solving techniques and
rules at our disposal that can assist us in solving equations more quickly and efficiently. In order to be successful as a
mathematics major, we must be familiar with this type of rule, which is especially important in problem solving. Our ability to
think quickly and prioritize our time is critical in our daily lives because it allows us to function more efficiently. This is
something we can use in both our studies and our daily lives because, now that we are living in the New Normal, we must
adapt to the quickest and most accurate method of solving equations.
This can be applied in a variety of situations at school, such as managing our tasks, learning how to solve different types of problems, and sharing our
knowledge with others. Mathematics is full of rules, and we will examine the significance of the PEMDAS rule in this study. There are numerous rules in
mathematics, but in this research, we will know the significance of the PEMDAS rule.
PEMDAS is an acronym used to mention the order of operations to be followed while solving expressions having multiple operations. PEMDAS stands for P-
Parentheses, E- Exponents, M- Multiplication, D- Division, A- Addition, and S- Subtraction.
According to Anthony Persico (2021) when studying math, you learn about a process called the order of operations. This process is a rule that must be
followed when solving math problems that have multiple operations such as subtraction, addition, multiplication, division, groupings, and/or exponents. There are
many memory tricks for remembering the math order of operations in the correct order, but the most popular is the PEMDAS rule.
Additionally, the PEMDAS rule for recalling the math order of operations has a few important sub-rules that must also be followed if you want to use
PEMDAS correctly (and get the correct answers to math problems). These important sub-rules relate to the relationships between multiplying/dividing and
adding/subtracting. The PEMDAS rule has been around for decades as a tool for helping students to remember the math order of operations. Many prefer to simply
remember the mnemonic PEMDAS (pronounced PEM-DAHS), while others choose to remember the phrase Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. This study does
not intended present on the negative picture of how the students described to the PEMDAS rule but rather to show the Significance of knowing the rule.
Furthermore sometimes you can’t be able to get the right answer in the some equation for example 10 + 2 / 2 =? If we’re going to use the regular computation
which is computing the number left to the right without any rule, so 10 + 2 is 12 and divided by 2 so the answer is six (6) which is incorrect, in the other hand if
we’re going to use the PEMDAS rule which is in 10 + 2 / 2 =? You’re going to get the quotient of 2/2 first before to add in 10, so 2 divided by 2 is 1, and add in
10, so the answer in that equation is 11, which is correct. This study are eager to know how often the students use the PEMDAS rule, additionally how the students
describe the PEMDAS rule. This study also aim to know how the student trusted to use the said rule during solving a mathematics equation. This study also want
to figure out what on those two method of solving are their use every time they solve an equation.

PROBLEM SOLVING
Selecting appropriate
Mathematical Knowledge Carrying it out
Schoenfeld (2010) stated that students need to learn to define goals and to self-regulate their problem solving behavior in order to improve solving of non-
standard mathematics problems. Schoenfeld observed that during problem solving, students display distinct categories of behavior. The computer program
allows students to choose problems and to make use of hints during different episodes of solving problems. Crucial episodes are: analyzing the problem,
selecting appropriate mathematical knowledge, making a plan, carrying it out, and checking the answer against the question asked. The effectiveness of the
computer program was evaluated by means of a pre-test–post-test quasi experimental design study. Four classes worked with the computer program in three
periods of two consecutive weeks each, whereas five classes received only traditional mathematics education. These classes served as a control group. The
results show evidence of intervention effectiveness. The students who worked with the computer program showed increased problem-solving ability
compared to the students in traditional mathematics instruction. The use of hints could explain an essential part of the increase in students’ problem solving
skills.

CHAPTER III
Research Methodology
This chapter discusses the research method use in
the study. It covers the discussion of the research design,
Methods and techniques of the study, population of the
study, Research Instrument, Data Processing and
Statistical Treatment and Data Gathering procedure.
Research Design
The researchers of this study will use descriptive research design of investigation.
The term descriptive research involves collecting data in order to test the hypothesis or
to answer questions concerning the current status of the subject of the study. This will
measure two or more variables as they exist naturally, and the goal is to establish the
comparison that exist between variables. This research design requires questionnaire
for data collection.
To give the objectives on this study, the researchers will present the frequency
problems and other important applicable techniques in analyzing to find out the
Significance in using the PEMDAS rule rather than regular computation in solving
equation of Mathematics major at La Concepcion College.
Population and Sample
The research instrument is known as the research tool, the researcher prepared the survey questionnaire
composed of different parts. Part I the Demographic Profile, Part II reflects the independent variable from SOP no.
2, Part III reflects to the dependent variable in SOP no. 3 and part IV the significant role to familiarize in PEMDAS

It will give us enough required quantitative data to test statistical method. To find out the information Significance
of using the PEMDAS rule rather than regular computation in solving equation of Mathematics major at LA
Concepcion College, the researcher distribute to the selected respondent in La Concepcion College.
Data gathering procedure
The following are procedures that were considered and will be followed by the researchers in acquiring vital
2. The researchers will formulate the Survey Questionnaire for the respondents.
3. The researchers will send a request letter to the Teacher to conduct a survey. We, the researchers will ask if
we can give the link to our Google Forms Survey to all Bachelor of Secondary Education major in mathematics level via
group chats that could announce and give the link.
4. Kindly ask for confirmation if they have distributed the Google Forms link of our survey questionnaires to
the proper respondents.
5. After the distribution; data from answered survey questionnaires will be collected for their analysis and
tabulation of results.
Data Processing and Statistical Treatment
The researchers will using the questionnaire in gathering quantitative data from the respondents. The
researchers will be asking the respondents to answer the survey by using Google forms. The data gathered
were arranged the question and results of the respondents. The statistical treatment that the researcher
chose for the part II and Part III was the Z-Test. If the calculated value is less than the table value at a 5%
level of significance for a given degree of freedom , the null hypothesis(HO) will be accepted, and shall
reject the Alternative Hypothesis (HA), and if the calculated value is greater than the table value the null
hypothesis (HO) will be rejected and accept the Alternative hypothesis (HA).
The data that will gathered will be treated statistically using the following formulas;
