CONCEPT
 Supervision derived from two word i.e., super and vision it
means overseeing.
 Overseeing the employee at work place.
 Act of watching a person activity that everything is done
correctly.
DEFINITION
“Supervision is defined as the authoritative direction of work of
ones subordinate.”

PURPOSES

 Help to motivate subordinates to maintain high morale.


 Help staff to develop individual capacity.
 Help staff to do their job skillfully and effectively.
 Help members of team to recognize problems and identify solutions.
 Help to develop team spirit and promote teamwork.
PRINCIPLES
 It should not be overburdened to individual or group.
 It should not causes unreasonable pressure for achievement.
 It should create atmosphere of mutual trust.
 It should be planned and adopted to the changing conditions.
 It must posses sound professional knowledge.

DUTIES OF SUPERVISOR
According to Nilsson H following 11 principle duties of supervisor: -
 To understand the duties and responsibilities of his/her own
position.
 To plan execution of the work.
 To divide the work among subordinates and direct them in
doing.
 To evaluate the performance of employees.
 To train the personnel.

 To correct mistakes, solve employees problems and develop
discipline.
 To explain subordinates about policies and procedures of
organization.
 To cooperate with colleagues and seek advice and assistance

SUPERVISOR

 Supervisor is a person who is responsible for


overseeing the performance of employees at work.
 Supervisor’s work directly concerned with the workers
activity.

 Converts goals, objectives into products or services.


 Controls the performance of workers.
 Recommends promotions.
QUALITIES OF SUPERVISOR
 Technical knowledge.
 Knowledge of the organization.

MANAGER
 Manager is the person responsible for planning and directing
the work of a group of individuals, monitoring the work, and
taking corrective action when necessary.
 Responsible for motivating and directing the progress of an
organization.

RESEARCH ARTICLES
“ Empirical research in clinical supervision: a systematic review
and suggestions for future studies.’’
Abstract: -
Background: Clinical supervision is considered to be a major
component of the development and maintenance of
psychotherapeutic competencies.
Result: The systematic literature search identified 19 publications
from 15 empirical studies.
Conclusion: This study concluded that supervision research often
lags behind psychotherapy research in general, and supervision
essential for better outcomes in clinical areas.
