This document discusses exercise intensity and provides categories of exercise intensity - low, moderate, and vigorous. It explains that exercise intensity refers to how hard the body is working during physical activity. The ideal intensity depends on one's health and fitness goals and current fitness level. Low intensity involves steady state activity at 50% maximum heart rate like walking or yoga. Moderate intensity raises heart rate and causes sweating, allowing for broken speech. Vigorous intensity is hard exertion at 70-85% maximum heart rate, making full sentences difficult, like running or swimming laps. Knowing these categories helps physical education students understand appropriate intensities for different fitness levels and goals.

PHATFIT 2

Exercise-Based
Fitness Activities
2nd Semester, SY 2022-2023
WEEK 10

MODULE 10:
Exercise intensity
Exercise intensity refers to how hard
your body is working during physical
activity. Your health and fitness goals,
as well as your current level of fitness,
will determine your ideal exercise
intensity.
Categories of Exercise intensity
1. Low intensity is referred to any form of physical activity or
exercise performed at a steady state requiring roughly 50%
of your maximum heart rate with no rest periods in between.
It is a low impact form of exercise that generally lasts for 30
minutes to 60 minutes in duration depending on the individual
Examples: Some examples of low-intensity workouts
are walking, bicycling, swimming, rowing,
yoga, tai-chi, and resistance training.
Such activities improve blood flow, prevent muscle wasting, and
prevent falls and injuries.
2. Moderate-intensity aerobic physical
activity means you're working hard
enough to raise your heart rate and
break a sweat. One way to tell if it's a
moderate-intensity aerobic activity is that
you'll be able to talk, but not sing the words
to your favorite song. Moderate exercise
intensity: 50% to about 70% of your
maximum heart rate.
3.  Vigorous exercise intensity Vigorous-intensity
exercise—sometimes called high-intensity exercise or
vigorous physical activity—is activity done with a large
amount of effort, resulting in a substantially higher heart
rate and rapid breathing. With this activity, exertion is
considered hard to extremely hard, making it difficult to
speak in full sentences. Activities like running, cycling, and
singles tennis are usually classified as vigorous.70% to
about 85% of your maximum heart rate.
Examples : Jogging or running. Swimming laps.
Riding a bike fast or on hills.
For Even Greater Health Benefits
Walking fast.
• Doing water aerobics.
• Riding a bike on level ground or with few hills.
• Playing doubles tennis.
• Pushing a lawn mower.
