Animation
The First Filipino animated cartoon
“moving picture” was made in 1953 by
komiks cartoonist Larry Alcala. It was
a short black and white exercise in
movement on regular 8-mm film of a
girl playing jump rope and a boy playing
a yoyo.
Coming on the heels of Alcala’s
exercise was Gerry Garcia’s Ang
Panday in 1986. It was to be the
first Filipino animation series
shown on TV for which Filipino
popular movie actor FPJ was the
model.

Print Media
Print media is a means of mass
communication composed of
printed publications such as
newspapers, magazine, books,
journals, and newsletters.
Tangibility is one of the key
features of print media.
Advertising

Advertisers are now maximizing the benefits of

digital media such as mobile advertising, banner ads,
and social media to reach consumers and other
clients’ demands. Despite of that, advertisers do not
discount the effectiveness of print media—
newspapers, magazines, flyers, brochures, posters,
billboards—in reaching the same target audience.
Comic Books

Or komiks, remain one of the popular print media art

forms in the Philippines. It was Jose Rizal who
created the first Filipino comic strip – Ang Pagong at
Ang Matsing. But komiks became popular in the
Philippines in the 1920s when Tagalog magazines such
as Telembang and Bagong Lipang Kalabaw started
featuring comic strips.
Digital Media
We lived in a world ruled by digital
media products. More and more
industries, even those that are not
usually associated with digital media,
are shifting from traditional media to
digital media. This is trend also
currently happening in the art world.
Game Development
The first wave focused on the rhetoric of play as
identity, which can be observed in games such as
Anito: Defend a Land Enraged (2003). In the second
wave, Filipino digital games that were developed
became accessible to any gaming culture. The third
wave is geared toward education and social
awareness. Games in this phase include Wordtrotter
(2010) and Wildfire (2010).
Web Design

It is a process of creation that involves collection,

arrangement, and creative implementation of ideas.
The aim is to present the content on web pages
accessible through the internet.
