What is
modern architecture?
The term “Modern Architecture”
describes architecture designed and built
within the social, artistic, and cultural
attitude known as Modernism. It put an
emphasis on experimentation, the rejection
of predetermined “rules,” and freedom of
expression in art, literature, architecture, and
music.
example
VILLA SAVOYE
(France)
One of the earliest and most
influential examples of modern
architecture is the Villa Savoye by Le
Corbusier, built in France in 1929. This
building, with its clean lines, white
facades, and flat roof, epitomized the new
aesthetic that came to be associated with
modern architecture.
influences
geographical
United States, specifically Chicago, is known as the birthplace
of modern architecture. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871,
many architects flocked to the city for the opportunity to take
part in the city’s rebuilding efforts.
INTEGRIDAD
Geological material that are widely used in Modern
Architecture include rocks, clays, sands, limestone, and
other industrial minerals.
climatic
The climate of the United States is highly diverse,
ranging from tropical conditions to arctic and alpine
conditions. Thus, air conditioning and lightings were
used as an important aspect of Modern Architecture
influences
social
Modern architecture was
influenced by the desire to create
efficient and cost-effective
buildings, often through the use of
standardized parts and mass
production techniques. This was in
part a response to the need for
housing for the rapidly growing
population in the early 20th
century.
influences
historical
Modern architecture emerged in the
early 20th century as a response to the
rapidly changing social, cultural, and
technological landscape of the time. It
was characterized by a rejection of
historical styles and a focus on
functionality, simplicity, and the use of
new materials and technologies. Key
architects and designers such as Le
Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Mies van der
Rohe, and Alvar Aalto were among the
pioneers of the modern architectural
movement.
influences
historical
In the years that followed, modern
architecture continued to evolve and
spread throughout Europe and beyond.
In the 1920s and 1930s, the Bauhaus
School in Germany became a major
center for modern design and
architectural experimentation. After
World War II, modern architecture
became the dominant style in the
Western world, and its influence can
still be seen in contemporary
architecture and urban planning today.
