Decile of Ungrouped Data

1) Deciles divide a data distribution into ten equal parts, with the fifth decile being the median. 2) To find the decile of ungrouped data, arrange the data in ascending order and use the formula Dk = position/score. 3) For data with non-integer decile positions, interpolate between the two surrounding data points to obtain the decile value.

DECILE OF

UNGROUPED
DATA
The deciles are the nine score values that
divide a distribution into ten equal parts. It can
be observed that D5 or the fifth decile is also
the median of the set of data.
Steps in finding the decile of ungrouped data:
1. Arrange the data in ascending order.
2. 2. Use the formula Dk = position/score
The list below shows the test scores of grade 9
students:
18, 21, 20, 17, 15, 29, 27, 22, 28
a. Find the 3rd decile or D3
b. b. Find the 7th decile or D7
Find D2 and D6 of the given set of data:

45, 49, 46, 52, 59, 55, 46, 57, 63, 68, 73, 69
Interpolate the value to obtain Dk
1. Subtract the data between the two
positions.
2. Multiply the result by the decimal part
obtained in the position.
3. Add the result to smaller number.
