Example 1:
An online seller recorded the number of
customers who sent him a personal
message each hour in a day.
The results were
14, 10, 12, 9, 17, 5, 8, 9, 14, 10 and 11.
Find the lower quartile, upper quartile and
the average of the lower quartile and the
upper quartile of the data.

Step 1. Arrange the data in ascending order:

Step 2. Solve for the location of the lower quartile and the upper quartile.
LOWER QUARTILE OR UPPER QUARTILE OR

Step 3. Locate for the score corresponding to the obtained location in the distribution.

Step 4. Find the average of the lower quartile and the upper quartile.
