NUC to VTC1010 Replacement

BEFORE YOU START

In order to install the new SWITCH harness, you will need:


• Ample lighting under Dash panel;
• Medium Phillips head screwdriver;
• Small Flat head screwdriver;
• New SWITCH harness (issued from Head Office)

REMOVING THE NUC

• Identify the NUC (MM15 computer) and NO LONGER


disconnect the following cables. Be sure to REQUIRED
tag these cables as they will be required to
plug back into the new VTC1010:
• 12v Power supply cable
• Ethernet cable
• USB cable

• Using the appropriate size socket, spanner


or screwdriver, undo the retaining nuts
that are securing the NUC to the panel.

• Once the NUC has been removed and the


disconnected cables are accessible,
proceed to cut (remove) the plug from the
12v Power cable leaving enough exposed
wire to terminate into the VTC010 green
USB CABLE
power block.

INSTALLING THE VTC1010

1. Remove the green power block from the


VTC1010;

2. Start with the black wire: Using a small


Flat head screwdriver, loosen the 1
corresponding terminal screw in the
green block enough to allow for the
newly exposed black wire to slide in;

3. Once the wire is in place, tighten the


screw in the green block to securely
terminate the black wire.

4. Once complete, perform steps 1 – 3 with - +


the red wire, ensuring that the red wire is
joined with the red loop and termination
occurs in the centre terminal

INSTALLING THE VTC1010 (REPEATED)

1. Remove the green power block from the


VTC1010 (this is done already for black
wire);

2. Using a small Flat head screwdriver, 1


loosen the corresponding terminal screw
in the green block enough to allow for
the newly exposed red wire to slide in;

3. Once the red wire is in place, tighten the


screw in the green block to securely
terminate the red wire.

REMOVING THE NUC

• Using a combination of existing holes and


brackets on the panel, secure the VTC1010
in an orientation such that the plugs for
the power, ethernet and USB are easily
accessible.

• Once the VTC1010 is secure, plug the


following cables in order:
• USB cable
• Ethernet cable
• 12v Power cable. USB CABLE
• Once the 12v Power has been connected,
the VTC1010 will immediately begin the
boot process.

NOTE: If there is no apparent power to the CABLE
VTC010, check that the fuses are not blown,
followed by ensuring that the Lithium Battery
is not in low voltage cut-out mode.

INSTALLING THE VTC1010

• Identify the (MM15 computer) and


disconnect the following cables. Be sure to
tag these cables as they will be required to
plug back into the new VTC1010:
• Power
• Ethernet
• USB

• Using the appropriate size socket or


spanner, undo the nut that is securing the
‘selected’ stud for the VTC1010 mount;

• Place Ground terminal (black wire with red


crimped end) over VTC1010 retaining stud;

• Secure and firmly tighten the nut that was


removed;

• Locate the SWITCH (blue device - NETGEAR


found under the Modem);

• Insert New Power Plug into SWITCH.

• Identify the (MM15 computer) and


disconnect the following cables. Be sure to
tag these cables as they will be required to
plug back into the new VTC1010:
• Power
• Ethernet
• USB

• Using the appropriate size socket or


spanner, undo the nut that is securing the
‘selected’ stud for the VTC1010 mount;

• Place Ground terminal (black wire with red


crimped end) over VTC1010 retaining stud;

• Secure and firmly tighten the nut that was
removed;

• Locate the SWITCH (blue device - NETGEAR


found under the Modem);

• Insert New Power Plug into SWITCH.

STEPS COMPLETED

• The Fuse panel cover has been removed;


• The 1A spade FUSE has been removed and
inspected;
• The original black wire has been removed
from the fuse panel;
• The New 12v (+) Terminal has been secured
to the Fuse Panel (replacing the original
black wire);
• The New Ground wire (black) has been
secured to the VTC1010 mounting stud;
• New POWER plug has been inserted into
the SWITCH.

FINAL STEPS
1A Spade Fuse
• Now insert and press firmly the 1A spade
fuse that was removed (or a replacement
fuse);
• Install and lock FUSE panel cover;
• Observe that green lights can be seen
emitting from the SWITCH (blue device -
NETGEAR); NEW SWITCH FUSE PANEL

REPLACING THE 12V(+)

• Identify the wire to be removed from the


Fuse Panel. It is adjacent to the spade fuse
that has just been removed;

• Using a Phillips head screw driver, undo the


terminal screw and remove the wire and
let it hang to one side … this can be left
loose.

• Referring to the new HARNESS (lead with


plug), take the short green and yellow wire
with red crimped end, 12v(+), and secure it
to the Dash Panel terminal using the screw
that was removed, replacing the wire that
was originally disconnected.

REMOVING THE 1A SPADE FUSE

• Refer to the labels on the Fuse Panel cover


to identify the SWITCH fuse (it is a ‘spade’
fuse type);

• Carefully remove the spade FUSE from the


Fuse Panel … it may be difficult as it will be
firmly seated;

• Inspect the spade FUSE for damage. Refer


to the images below for blown fuse
inspection;
o If the fuse is blown, it will require
replacement with a 1A – 5A fuse before
closing the Fuse Panel cover.

• Ensure you have ample working light;

• Lift Dash Panel to reveal Communications


Equipment;

• Identify the following components:


o Fuse Panel
o Switch (Blue device - NETGEAR)
o VTC-1010 (Aluminium Computer)

• Carefully remove the cover from the Fuse


Panel by:
o Turning the RED key anti-clockwise to IDENTIFY
the open position; SWITCH FUSE
o Lift and remove the cover and then UNDER COVER
place down to one side.

• Refer to the labels on the Fuse Panel cover


to identify the SWITCH fuse;

INSERTING THE 1A SPADE FUSE

• Locate 1A Spade Fuse that was removed at


the start of this guide. If the Spade FUSE
was damaged or blown, please use a new
1A Spade FUSE;

• Insert Spade FUSE and press firmly to 1A Spade Fuse


ensure that the fuse is correctly seated;
