Reasons for Parallel Operation
a) Handling larger loads.
b) Maintenance can be done without power disruption.
c) Increasing system reliability.
d) Increased efficiency.
Conditions for Parallel Operation
Necessary conditions for paralleling synchronous machine with
other alternators are:
• The terminal voltage of the incoming machine should be equal to
that of the alternator with which it is to be run in parallel or with
the bus bar voltage.
• The frequency of the generated voltage of the incoming machine
must be equal to the frequency of the voltage of the bus bar.
• The phase sequence of the incoming machine and the bus bar
should be same.
