GRADE 9 CLE Lesson 1 - Human As Fundamentally Good
GRADE 9 CLE Lesson 1 - Human As Fundamentally Good
THE HUMAN
PERSON
IS
FUNDAMENTALLY
GOOD
MARK 10:17-22
The Rich and the Kingdom
of God
17
As Jesus started on his
way, a man ran up to him
and fell on his knees before
him. “Good teacher,” he
asked, “what must I do to
inherit eternal life?”
18
“Why do you call me
good?” Jesus answered. “No
one is good—except God
alone.
MARK 10:17-22
19
You know the
commandments: ‘You
shall not murder, you
shall not commit
adultery, you shall not
steal, you shall not give
false testimony, you shall
not defraud, honor your
father and mother.’”
MARK 10:17-22
20
“Teacher,” he declared,
“all these I have kept since I
was a boy.”
21
Jesus looked at him and
loved him. “One thing you
lack,” he said. “Go, sell
everything you have and
give to the poor, and you will
have treasure in
heaven. Then come, follow
me.”
22
At this the man’s face fell.
He went away sad, because
In the Apostle’s Creed, we profess
that God is the Father Almighty and
Creator of heaven and earth. He is
our Father and Creator. He is our
origin and source of being. Because
God is all-good, we possess such
quality of goodness because we came
from Him, although not perfectly the
same as Him.
We came from God, not even because of the
person’s status in society whether he/she is
rich or poor, innocent and sinful, labeled as
bad person at times, etc.
We are
made in
the
image and
likeness of
God.

No human person is
created bad or evil.
But since God
gave the human
person intellect
and free will, the
person is free to
choose how to live
in a manner
according to God’s
design for
him/her.
To do evil is
a product of
free will,
not God’s
will.
Human goodness is
rooted in the truth
that God created us
in His own divine
image. This
goodness is innate
in every human
person.
Jesus Christ, the
perfect image of
human goodness,
calls us daily to
follow Him in living a
life full of goodness
though loving service
to others, even if at
times it means
sacrificing what we
have.
In gratitude to God who
created us as good, we
emulate God to others
by living our daily lives
thinking good, doing
good, loving good, and
hopefully being good at
all times.
By Christ’s gift of the
Holy Spirit, we are
strengthened and
inspired from within in
responding to Christ’s
mandate for us to follow
Him to be good and grow
every day in His
likeness.
As persons created in
the image and likeness
of God and graced by the
Holy Spirit, we share in
God’s goodness.
Realizing this, we do not
lose hope when we
commit mistakes or
when we offend God and
other when we sin.
Our fundamental goodness
makes it possible for us to
strive for conversion and
to persevere once again.
We manifest goodness to
the fullest when we do
loving service to our
neighbors, especially to
those in need.
And even the very hairs
of your head are all
numbered. So don’t be
afraid; you are worth
more than many
sparrows” -Matthew
10:26–31
