OBJECTIVES:
 Students will be able to differentiate the
CD and DVD Player
 To apply the uses of this two
technologies in Education
 To identify the advantages and
disadvantages of CD and DVD player
CD PLAYER

 It is an electronic device that plays

audio compact discs, which are
a digital optical disc data
storage format.
 The CD player has the job of finding and
reading the data stored as bumps on the
CD.
FOUR FUNDAMENTAL
COMPONENTS:

 A drive motor
 A laser and a lens system
 A tracking mechanism
 Spindle motor
CD OR COMPACT DISK

 An optical medium that can store

digital data.
 Designed to replace the old cassette
tapes.
 A digital optical disc data storage
format, co-develop by Philips and
Sony.
Different formats used to store data
on a CD:
 CD-DA - is the standard format for
audio compact discs.
 CD-ROM "Compact Disc Read-Only
Memory” is a pre-pressed
optical compact disc which
contains data.
DVD PLAYER:

 Is a device that plays discs produced

under both the DVD-Video and DVD-
Audio technical standards, two
different and incompatible
standards.
 DVD players are connected to a
television to watch the DVD content,
which could be a movie, a recorded
TV show, or other content.
PARTS OF A DVD PLAYER ARE:

Disc drive mechanism

- consists of a motor that will drive
the disc in a circular motion.
Optical system - consists of the laser
beam, lenses, prism, photo-detectors
and also mirrors.
Printed Circuit Board - similar to that
of any other electronic circuits.
DVD OR DIGITAL VERSATILE DISC:
 A type of compact disc able to store
large amounts of data, especially
high-resolution audio visual
materials.
 An optical disc technology with 4.7
gigabyte storage capacity on a
single-sided, one-layered disk, which
is enough for a 133-minute movie.
Uses in Education:

 It is good for a visual learners

 Accessibility

 Low cost field trips

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES:

Advantages:
 Mass storage capacity

- It has the capacity to store large

amount of data’s like educational videos.
 High data stability

- Give you a high quality playback for

years of classroom presentations.
DISADVANTAGES:
 It is expensive
-Teachers cannot easily buy this
technology if there is no enough
budget.
 Difficult to use

- It requires a lot of effort in

setting up the device.
