WHAT IS PATHOLOGY?:
• Study of Disease.
• Pathologist Works with:
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Med. Lab Scientists.
- Morticians.
In hospitals to diagnose, treat and prevent
illnesses.
ISN’T IT ALL ABOUT DEAD BODIES?

NO; IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT DEAD BODIES.

• But you would’nt be alone if you thought this.


• Survey shows >2/3 of people thought its all about
dead bodies as shown in TV programmes.
• Few Pathologists do perform autopsies (a very small
proportion of their work).
• Great majority of pathologists works for the living
patients.
• Blood tests, Cx smears, lumps excised, etc. it is the
pathologist that determines if there is any disease
present or not.

THE REALITY:
• Pathologists do not all do same job.
• More than 20 different specialties in pathology
broadly grouped into Anatomic and Clinical
pathologies.
• Pathologists work in Laboratories, Clinics, and
hospital wards
• You might meet some of them face to face in course
of duty, but others work behind the scenes
providing information that other doctors need to
make diagnosis and decide what treatment to offer.
IMPORTANCE OF PATHOLOGY:
• Millions of pathology tests are carried out
every year.
• At least 14 tests for everyman, woman and
child in the country.
• Many advances have been made by
pathologists in cancer treatment, safe blood
transfusions, development of vaccines against
infectious diseases, and therapy of some
inherited syndromes.
DO YOU KNOW?:
• More than 80% of all correct diagnoses made in the National
Health Scheme involves the imput of a Pathologist.
• Pathologist is said to be the consultant of consultants.
• The Custodian of Medical Ethics.
• He practices an evidence-based medicine
• The Final Arbiter between the living and the dead.
• The Pathologist’s report is not just a mere write-up ,but a VERDICT
that may have far reaching effect on human life.
• The Pathologist is then:
- A Priest
- An Oracle
- THE EZE NMUO
IN SUMMARY:
• Your treatment is as good as your diagnosis
• A physician is as good as his pathology.
• DANIEL 7:10 . A fiery stream issued and came
forth from before him: 10,000 ministered unto
