Bernoulli Trials
A Bernoulli trial (or binomial trial) is a random
experiment with exactly two possible outcomes,
"success" and "failure", in which the probability of
success is the same every time the experiment is
conducted and in which the trials are independent of
one another, e.g. Coin toss.

• (b) If the block has more than 1 error, then the block
is retransmitted. Find the probability that M
retransmissions are required.
Example
Block is accepted if 99 or all 100 bits are correct.
Y = X2 (if X = 2 or X = 3)
Y = 0 (otherwise)
1st Method
E[Y] = (0 × 4 / 8) + (4 × 3 / 8) + (9 × 1 / 8)
E[Y] = 21 / 8
