Arabic Music

Agenda
• An introduction to Arabic music and how it has spread and become
more and more diverse.
• The different types of Arabic music and the basic types of rhythm and
scale.
• 5 instruments that were used, and their geography.
An intro to Arabic Music
Classical Arab music, also referred to as "Arab art music," is
distinguished by its intricate melodies and rhythms and classic
instruments like the oud, qanun, and nay. Its roots may be discovered in
the medieval era and is the cornerstone of all Arab music.
Types of Arabic Music
There were several different types of Arabic Music, such as:
- Traditional Arabic music (these are traditional and cultural, such as the
Muwashahat, and Andalusian music, where the ney, qunan, and oud
were used)
-Modern Arabic music, which was Arabic music that has been mixed
with western styles of music, with the likes of Arabic pop, hip-hop, and
rock.
The basic types of rhythm and scale

The geography of Arabic music
Arabic music originated in Western Asia, North Africa, Levant (Syria,
Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine). Arabic music came from these places,
as they all have similar music, instruments, etc. Egypt plays a big part in
Arabic music, where popular instruments such as the oud and qanun.
