Conducting a discourse analysis
• This assignment consists in two parts.
• Part 1:
– Your first task is to transcribe a debate held in class during one
of the online sessions and submit the transcript in the form of a
word document.
• Part 2:
– After an introduction to QDA Miner Lite, a software for qualitative
data analysis, your second task is import the text into QDA
Miner Lite, code the text and identify main storylines used during
the debate.
– You then need to summarize your results on 6-8 slides and
submit these until July 3 to Regina.Birner@uni-hohenheim.de
– You need to submit the ppt File and the Coding Report
– See ILIAS folder “Introduction to the QDA Miner Lite”

Getting started

Creating a new project
• Select: Create a project from a list of documents/images

Select the transcript, create the
project and save it under your name
• Click “Add”
• Then click “Create”

When you see “Importation Options”,
just click “ok”

Then save the project under your name
• Please note: You cannot import the file when it is opened in Word.
You need to close it first. 10
Start coding by adding codes

Select all codes in “Code Retrieval”
Then press “search”

Press the button “Create coded
segments report”

Use the Coding Report for your
