Isometric

Drawing
What is pictorial
drawing?
• Pictorial drawing often represents a
portion of the object and shows the
method of its construction.

• Pictorial drawing enables the person

without technical training to visualize the
successive stages of the design and to
develop it in a satisfactory manner.
TYPES OF PICTORIAL DRAWING

1. Perspective Drawing

2. Oblique Drawing

3. Isometric Drawing

Perspective Drawing
It is the representation of an
object as it appears to an
observer at a particular
position relative to the object.

What is Plane of Projection?
• Plane of Projection (POP) is
a plane on which a
particular view is
projected.
• We need different POP to
draw different views.

Oblique Drawing
The oblique drawing resembles an
isometric drawing except that one face
is parallel to the plane of projection,
and the front face is similar to the view
as it would appear in a multi-view
drawing.

What is Isometric Drawing?
• The term isometric came from the two words— iso means
“equal” and metrum means “measure”. The word
isometric thus means “equal measure.”
• It is a drawing wherein the object is represented by three
sides seen at one time.
• It is made with a 30x60 degree triangle. It is also a three-
dimensional drawing because height, width, and depth are
all drawn in a single plane.

Method
First and Third Angle Projection
• First Angle and Third Angle. They
differ only in the position of the plan,
front and side views.
• First angle orthographic projection
used mainly in Europe.
• Third angle which is used in USA.

First Angle Projection
• Object is imagined in 1st
quadrant
• Object is located between
observer and plane of
projection
• The plane of projection
assumed to be non-
transparent

Third Angle Projection
• Object is imagined in 3rd
quadrant
• Object is located between
observer and object
• The plane of projection
assumed to be transparent
