ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
PRESENTATION ITE LEVEL

GENERATIVE AI OVERVIEW
• Generative AI is a form of artificial intelligence that generates
data using generative models.
• It uses neural networks to identify patterns and structures
within existing data.
• Types of Generative AI include Generative Adversarial Networks
(GANs), Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), and Transformers.
• GANs consist of two neural networks, a generator and a
discriminator, trained simultaneously.
CONT’...
• VAEs encode input data into a compressed
latent space and decode it back to original data.
• Transformers, like Generative Pre-trained
Transformers (GPT), are used for text generation.
• Generative AI works through data collection,
training, generation, evaluation, and refinement.
HISTORY OF GENERATIVE
AI
The history of generative artificial intelligence (generative
AI) spans from the 1950s to the 1970s, with early models
such as the Perceptron and ELIZA being introduced in the
1950s. The Cognitron, developed by Kunihiko Fukushima in
1975, laid the groundwork for deep learning. Advancements
in the 1980s and 1990s included the development of
backpropagation, Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks,
and powerful GPUs by companies like Nvidia.
CONT’...
The 2000s saw the resurgence of AI, with the Face
Recognition Grand Challenge and the launch of Siri, the first
widely used virtual assistant. The rise of generative AI was
marked by the breakthrough with Generative Adversarial
Networks (GANs) in 2014, which used two neural networks to
create realistic images, videos, and audio. The Transformer
Revolution in 2017 led to significant advancements in
natural language processing and generation.
CONT’...
OpenAI's GPT-1, the first Generative Pre-trained Transformer,
was released in 2018, capable of generating coherent text.
GPT-2 demonstrated remarkable abilities in text generation in
2019, sparking debate about the potential and risks of AI-
generated content.
GPT-3, with 175 billion parameters, set new benchmarks in
generating human-like text, capable of completing a wide
array of tasks with minimal prompting.
APPLICATIONS OF
GENERATIVE AI
•Text Generation: Creating articles, stories, and
conversational responses. For example, ChatGPT can
generate human-like text for various purposes.
• Image Generation: Designing graphics and visual content.
DALL-E, for instance, creates images based on textual
descriptions.
• Video Generation: Producing video content, such as
animations and summaries.

CHALLENGES AND LIMITATIONS
OF GENERATIVE AI
Bias: AI systems can exhibit biases present in the data they are
trained on, leading to discriminatory outcomes.
Misinformation: AI can generate or spread false information,
including deepfakes, impacting trust and decision-making.
Job Displacement: Automation powered by AI can lead to job
losses across various industries.
Ethical Concerns: Issues such as privacy, accountability, and
the potential misuse of AI raise ethical dilemmas.
GENERATIVE AI IN
DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES
Marketing
1. Content Creation: AI can generate high-quality content, such as blog posts,
social media updates, and advertisements, at scale.
2. Predictive Analytics: AI analyzes trends and consumer behavior to forecast
future market demands and optimize marketing strategies.
Healthcare
1. Drug Discovery: AI accelerates drug discovery processes by predicting how
different compounds interact with targets in the body.
2. Patient Care: AI-powered virtual assistants provide patients with health
advice, reminders for medication, and answers to medical queries.
CONT’...
Education
1. Content Generation: AI can create educational materials, including textbooks, quizzes,
and interactive learning modules.
2. Tutoring: AI-driven tutoring systems offer students personalized guidance and support,
helping them understand complex subjects.eg. Khan Academy, Socratic by Google
Entertainment
1. Content Creation: AI generates music, scripts, and visual art, pushing the boundaries
of creative possibilities.
2. Personalized Recommendations: AI algorithms suggest movies, TV shows, music, and
games based on user preferences and behavior.
3. Interactive Experiences: AI powers immersive experiences like virtual reality (VR) and
augmented reality (AR), creating more engaging and interactive entertainment forms

GENERATIVE AI AND
SOCIETY:
IMPACT ON CULTURE,
ECONOMY, AND HUMAN
INTERACTIONS
• Generative AI has disrupted culture, In the arts history, AI can now create
novel, paintings, music and literature as seen with tools like GPT-3. This
demonstrates creativity but raise concern of Authenticity.

• Economically AI automate tasks has increased productivity like data entry,

content creation and writings. However, this risks job losses. Mention could be
made of an AI journalist displaying human reporters.

• Generative AI also shapes human interactions. Provision of translation services

has reduced the problem of language barriers. AI assistant like Alexa provides
helpful services. But the rise of
AI-generated content online raises trust issue.
Overall, Generated AI present both opportunities and challenges that require
careful consideration
CASE STUDIES (SUCCESSFUL
IMPLEMENTATIONS OF
GENERATIVE AI)
Education

Case Study 1: A number of Coursera’s courses include the Learning

Assistant Bot (AI powered chatbot). It offers immediate solutions to
frequent queries, helps with technological problems, and even gives study
advice based on how well a student is doing. Because of the bot, learners’
e-learning experiences are easier and more effective because they always
have access to support.
CONT’...
Healthcare

Case study 2: Generative artificial intelligence creates customized

treatment programs by examining vast quantities of patient data and
producing treatment recommendations based on that data. These data include
patient’s unique characteristics, medical histories, genetic profile and many
others. Examples are Google’s DeepMind health and Microsoft’s health bot.
ETHICAL AND LEGAL
IMPLECATIONS
The Implications for Law and Ethics: Rights to
Copyright, privacy, and Ethics AI Development.
• Right to copyright
Copyright ownership: Who owns content
created by AI - the AI itself, its developer, or the
user who inputs prompts?
CONT’...
• Privacy
Surveillance and Privacy: AI can enhance surveillance, compromising
individual privacy, and sparking debates about balancing privacy and
security.
• Ethical AI Development
Accountability and responsibility: As AI becomes more independent,
it's increasingly difficult to determine who's responsible for its
actions, highlighting the need for clear regulations and standards in
critical fields like healthcare, finance, and law enforcement.
