Introduction

• The Student's t-test is a statistical test used to

determine if there is a significant difference
between the means of two groups.

• It was developed by William Sealy Gosset, who

published under the pseudonym "Student" in
1908.

• The t-test is widely used in hypothesis testing

when the data are approximately normally
distributed.

William Sealy Gosset, who developed the "t-

statistic" and published it under the
pseudonym of "Student"
Why t-statistics ?

• Sample size adjustment

• Standardization

• Inference on population parameters

• Hypothesis Testing

• Degrees of freedom

• Assumption of normality

• Comparison with known distributions

01. Independent One-
Sample
An independent one-sample t-test is used to test
whether the average of a sample differ significantly
from a population mean, a specified value μ0.

An Example

Suppose that the teacher of a school claims that an

average student of his school studies 8 hours per
day during weekends and we desire to test the truth
of this claim.

Generally speaking, this test involves testing the null hypothesis
H0: μ = μ0 against the alternative hypothesis, H1: μ ≠ μ0 where
μ is the population mean and μ0 is a specific value of the
population mean that we would like to test for acceptance.

An Example
Q. Suppose that average blood sugar level is
80mg/decibel and we desire to test the truth of this
claim. 100, 80, 62, 65, 73

02. Dependent Two-
Sample
The dependent two-sample t-test is used when you
want to compare the means of two related groups,
where each data point in one group is paired or
matched to a data point in the other group.

Assumption
s:
• The data should be approximately normally distributed
within each group.

• The variances of the two groups should be roughly equal.

• The differences between paired data points should be

independent of each other.

• The data should be interval or ratio scale.

02. Dependent Two-
Sample
The dependent two-sample t-test is used when you
want to compare the means of two related groups,
where each data point in one group is paired or
matched to a data point in the other group.

An Example
• A patient's health condition before the treatment
and after the treatment.
• Change in Blood Pressure before and after
announcement within a sample.
03. Independent Two-
Sample
The independent samples T-test is defined as statistical
hypothesis testing technique in which the samples from
two independent groups are compared to determine if
the means of the associated populations are significantly
different. The test compares the means of two groups,
such as a control group and a treatment group, to
determine if the difference between the groups’ means is
statistically significant or due to random chance.
Formula:
03. Independent Two-
Sample
An example
Lets say that we have two independent groups of marketing
professionals having similar qualification and we want to
compare their income to determine whether their income is
significantly different.

Independent samples t-test is also called unpaired two-

samples t-test because the test is performed with only two
groups that are independent or unpaired or unrelated. The
picture above shows the representation of two independent
samples and the aspect of their means.
Conclusion THANK
In conclusion, the application of t-test
statistics is a powerful and widely
utilized tool in statistical analysis,
YOU
providing a rigorous framework for
assessing the significance of
differences between sample means.
Whether employed in independent
samples or one-sample scenarios, the
t-test facilitates informed decision-
making in diverse fields such as
scientific research, education, and
business.
