Binary Phase Diagrams


Anatomy of Phase diagrams
• Symptomatic diagrams (causes lie behind) (interpretation requires
understanding of both.
• The actual cause will guide you to estimate/predict properties the
properties
• PDs are co poised of lines (vertical, horizontal , and inclined), regions
(single phase and 2 phase), points (repressing equilibrium (within 2
phases or 3 phases), and lastly reactions (always on horizontal line
(look for “v” shapes).

• (Relate all this to Fe-Fe-carbide diagram)
