Data Center Assessment & GAP Analysis
History Lucky Electric

` `
o Equipment Failure
 Since the beginning of the IT services, Environment of the Data Center was not suitable, which was
highlighted to the seniors on several occasions.
 IT Services were started in November 2021 (New Admin Bldg), with 2 servers (Web Server, Application
Server, Backup Server), with 2 x Layer 3 Core Switches – At that time there was no HVAC system in Admin
Bldg
 Later 3 more servers were added (Domain Hosting, Intranet Service, Scanning Services, Storage
Services), with 3 x Firewalls, 4 x Switches, 2 x Routers.
 From Feb 2022 to December 2022, Several Server hard drives became offline, having corrosion on the
circuit boards. Due to multiple failures of servers, we suffered incremental data losses, with service
downtime.
 In Nov 2022, 2 x Servers became offline, having multiple issues in mother boards and RAID Controllers.
 In Nov 2023, All the servers were unavailable including 3 x switches due to motherboard, Hard Drive
failures. All services were stopped except SAP and Internet which were configured temporarily on
Gateway Firewalls.
 In Dec, 2023 M/s Super Micro (supplier of our Servers) visited the Data Center and declared that the
environment is unsuitable for the IT Equipment, and hence rejected all our warranty claims related to
faulty HDDs and Servers
 Since then, 3 Data Servers are not taken in service due to inadequate environment in Data Center
 As a result only internet, VPN and Data Link services are available directly without any restrictive controls.

` `
 Due to the multiple pre-mature device failures, we decided to engage a consultant for assessment
of Data Center
 TORs included
 Assess LECPL's data center infrastructure against industry best practices and standards.
 Identify the cause of premature failure of equipment.
 Identify gaps between current capabilities and requirements for present and future growth.
 Develop a plan to align with minimum international standards by design drawings, enhancing
reliability, security, and scalability.
 Provide recommendations for improvements and solutions.
 After detailed market survey related with Data Center Consultancy, M/S Energeniq was appointed
 The team visited the location and installed the sensors (corrosion monitoring coupons) to take
independent atmospheric readings for the period of one month (24 x 7 x 30).
 The coupons were sent to the international lab and after getting the results, detailed report &
recommendations were finalized with estimated cost to uplift the data center as per minimum
industry standards. i.e. TIA-942 Tier 1 out of 4, for the protection of IT related assets.

Fire Suppression & Detection System Lucky Electric
Power
Company
` `
• Highlights:

 Absence of dedicated Data Center compliance fire detection and suppression system.
 No sensitive Aspirating Smoke Detection (ASD) system for early detection.
 Existing water-based sprinklers pose a risk to sensitive equipment.
 Replacing with clean agent gases suppression system, install VESDA and Fire smoke detection system for
detection.
 Seal Openings: Use fire-rated materials to close cable and pipe penetrations.

Key Findings of Assessment Study Lucky Electric
Power
Company
` `
Dusty Environment with high rate of corrosion

Multiple openings carrying dust and causing air and temperature leakages.

HVAC system needs improvement for optimal temperature and humidity control.

HVAC system has no backup power, consequently data center will go down due to over heating.

Racks has no proper ventilation system causes higher humidity generation inside.

No dedicated UPS system for the data center.

No dedicated Generator for Data center.

Racks are directly powered via rack-mounted breakers, Hazardous for IT asset in terms of short
circuit lead to fire.
Inadequate grounding/bonding/earthing infrastructure.

Fire suppression and detection system requires standardized upgrade.

Recommendations Lucky Electric
Power
Company
` `
 Close all openings and windows for better air and temperature insulation.

 De-contamination and cleaning is required to protect equipment damage.

 Upgrade and install the HVAC system and HEPA filter air-purification system.

 Access Control and Temperature monitoring system is strongly recommended to protect the data
center environment.
 Replacement of Communication Racks as per the Data Center Standard for proper air ventilation and
equipment temperature stability.
 Implement a new and separate grounding/bonding/earthing system.

 Install a dedicated generator and UPS system for redundancy of data center.

 Upgrade and separate electrical distribution cables from auxiliary load and communication channels
of admin building.
 Upgrade the fire detection and suppression system as per TIA942.
