BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION DESIGN
•Phase 1: Planning and preliminary studies
1.Definition of needs: In addition to identifying the purpose of the bridge, the load
capacity, the type of traffic (light vehicles, heavy vehicles, railway), the design speed, the
width of the deck and the free height above the bridge must be considered. obstacle, it is
important to take into account the accessibility
2.Technical studies: The geotechnical analysis must determine the capacity of the land to
support the bridge loads, considering the depth and type of soil, the presence of water and
possible seismic conditions.
•The hydrological study must analyze the flow of the river or watercourse that is saved,
the speed of the water and the risk of flooding.
•The environmental impact assessment must consider the flora, fauna, landscape
and possible effects on water quality.
3. Selection of the type of bridge: The choice of the type of bridge will depend on
•various factors such as the length of the span, the available height, the type of traffic, the
budget and aesthetics.
4.Preliminary design: The geometry of the bridge is defined in plan and elevation,
including the horizontal and vertical alignment, the slope of the deck, the total length and
shape of the pillars, the dimensions and characteristics of the structural elements such
• Phase 2: Final design and preparation of plans
• Detailed structural analysis: A computational analysis is performed to
determine the forces and moments acting on the bridge in different loading
scenarios. The capacity of the structural elements to resist the maximum
allowable forces and deformations is verified. The design is optimized to
ensure the safety, efficiency and durability of the bridge.
• Technical specifications: The properties of the materials to be used are
defined, such as the type of concrete, steel or wood, and their mechanical
characteristics. The construction methods, equipment and machinery to be
used are established, detailed plans are included with all dimensions,
sections, views and construction details of the bridge.
• Approvals and permits: Necessary authorizations are obtained from
government entities, such as construction, environmental and land use
permits.
• Phase 3: Construction of the bridge
• Site preparation: The work area is cleared, excavations for the
foundation are carried out and support structures are installed, the ground
conditions are monitored and the necessary drainage works are carried out.
• Construction of the superstructure: The structural elements of the
bridge are manufactured and assembled, such as beams, pillars and the
deck, specific construction techniques are implemented Tests and quality
control: Load tests are carried out to verify the bridge's ability to withstand
service loads and accidental overloads, materials and the quality of the
execution Surface coatings, paints and road markings are applied.
• Railings, public lighting and other safety and operational elements are
installed.
