WHAT IS
•CTP?
CTP (Collection Tree Protocol) is a tree-based
routing protocol for WSNs.
• Routes data from sensor nodes to a central sink
using metrics like ETX.
• Features:
a. Gradient-based routing (sink as root).
b. Adaptive beaconing with the Trickle Algorithm.
c. Focuses on reliability and energy efficiency.
LIMITATIONS OF
• CTP
Static Path Selection:
⚬ Fails in dynamic environments.
• Sensitivity to Interference:
⚬ High retransmissions and routing loops under
interference.
• Inefficient Overhead:
⚬ Frequent topology changes increase resource
consumption.
WHAT IS O-CTP?
• O-CTP (Opportunistic Collection Tree Protocol) is a
hybrid routing protocol.
• Combines traditional routing with opportunistic
routing.
• Features:
a. Opportunistic routing adapts to interference.
b. Dynamic triggers for switching routing modes.
c. Geographic opportunistic forwarding.

OPPORTUNISTIC ROUTING EXPLOITS THE
BROADCAST NATURE OF WIRELESS
NETWORKS. NODE S DOES NOT
PRESELECT A PREFERRED FORWARDER
BUT EXPLOITS THE FACT THAT THERE
MIGHT BE MANY POTENTIAL
FORWARDERS IN A NODE‘S VICINITY
ABLE TO RECEIVE THE BROADCAST
PACKE
WHY IS O-CTP
BETTER?
• Adaptability: Handles dynamic network conditions
effectively.
• Energy Efficiency: Reduces unnecessary
retransmissions.
• Reduced Overhead: Combines the best of both
routing approaches.
• Real-World Feasibility: Compatible with existing
WSN hardware.

REAL-WORLD
APPLICATIONS OF O-CTP
• Environmental monitoring in interference-prone
areas.
• Military and disaster response networks.
• Urban sensor networks for smart cities.
CONCLUSION
• CTP is effective in stable environments but
struggles under interference.
• O-CTP combines traditional and opportunistic
routing for superior performance.
• A practical solution for robust WSN deployments
in real-world scenarios
