Challenges in WSN
●
The energy of sensor nodes cannot be
recharged. So the reserved energy should be
utilized optimally.
●
Energy consumption, especially during data
transmission is a major issue.
●
Energy consumption depends on what routing
protocol we are using in the WSN.
Clustering
●
One of the most mopular routing technique in
WSN for it’s characteristics such as energy-
efficient, scalable, lower latency.
●
WSN network is divided into sub networks/
clusters and each cluster has cluster head.
●
CHs collect the sensed data from his cluster
and forward it to the base station.
Clustering
●
CHs consume more energy due to collecting
and forwarding data from cluster.
Clustering
●
Due to unbalanced distribution, nodes far from
CHs consume more energy.
●
If sensor nodes consume energy more
equitably, they continue to provide connectivity
for longer and the network lifetime increases.
Proposed system model
●
sensor nodes are randomly distributed over an
area of 90 x90 meter.
●
Sensor nodes are location aware.
Proposed system model
●
Motivated from the previous work Cluster based
Energy Efficient Location Routing Protocol
(CELRP).
Key Features of the Protocol
●
Clustering
●
Data Aggregation
●
Adaptive Transmission Power Control
●
Load Balancing
Energy consumption in the Protocol
●
N wireless sensor nodes
●
grid size m x m
●
so the number of cluster heads will be m2
●
K: Number of leaf nodes in a cell; i.e. k =N/m2-1
● Et: Energy to transmit one sample
● Er: Energy to receive one sample
● Ein: Initial energy provided to each node at the
time of deployment
Energy consumption in the Protocol
● Eth: Energy Threshold below which a node
cannot act as a cluster head.
● Eln: Energy consumed by Leaf node
● Ps: Power consumed while a node is asleep
● Tt: Time to transmit one sample
● Ts: Sampling interval
Energy consumption in the Protocol
●
So Energy Consumed by leaf nodes
Eln= Et+(Ts-Tt)Ps
●
Total energy consumed by CH in receiving
K samples is K*Er
●
During each sampling interval, a CH spends
K*Tt time for receiving samples, Tt time for
transmission and remaining Ts-(K+1)Tt time in
sleep mode.
Energy consumption in the Protocol
●
The total energy consumed by a CH during one
sampling interval, Ech is given by:
●
life of a CH in terms of number of sampling
intervals, Ns
Energy consumption in the Protocol
●
energy consumed by a leaf node during the first
round(Ns intervals)
Eln1= Ns*Eln
