Defining the Problem
Problem Statement – “Slack’s "Save for Later" feature allows users to bookmark messages, files, or content they want to
revisit. However, usage data shows that only 12% of users are utilizing this feature, despite its potential to improve
productivity by organizing important information.”

Goals
• Known info: we know the current utilization of the “Save for Later” feature is 12%, and also for a fact
that using the feature would help the user to increase their productivity in a significantly way.
• Possible user personas that could help us design solutions of specific behaviors of users.
• Figuring out how we can improve our offering, making it more useful to users currently using the
feature.
• Improving the methods used to communicate with users regarding under/un-utilized features that
would help them improve their productivity.
User Segmentation
Segmenting users in buckets of possible reasons which would lead to them not utilizing the “Save for Later” feature to its
best capacity in improving productivity.

Unawareness

During the Slack onboarding journey, the user is never made aware of the existence of the “Save for Later
Feature and the benefits it could bring to the user.

Non-Intuitiveness

The user may be aware of the existence of the “Save for Later” feature but does not use it often because of a
lack of recall for the feature (user forgets about the feature)

Lack of Functionality

The user may be aware of the “Save for Later” feature but finds it to be lacking of functionality that offers
further utility to the user.
Possible Course of action
We’ll address each of the 3 possible reasons for users to not utilize the “Save for Later” feature, this will include prompting
the users with gentle reminders about the feature via soft nudges, educating the user during the onboarding & also
building additional feature sets to convince the users who’re still on fence about if the feature is utilitarian for them.

1) User Education 2) Slack Bot 3) Feature Enhancement

Soft Nudge
Nudges could be implemented in multiple ways, these work to remind users they can use the “Save for Later” when user
performs a certain action. Nudges are especially useful as they prompt the user at the exact moment they might be
needing the feature.

• The community-based Nudge would help us build a habit among
users to increase the usage of the ”Save for Later” feature.
Success Metrics
We’ll be implementing multiple modifications in our product, this will require us to track the usage in phases
while having multiple points to capture interaction from the user.
