Yourself Katrina is the CEO and founder of K Cosmetics.
She started the company out of her love for
make-up and has managed to make it grow
into one of the top players in the industry by
formulating effective strategies. From only two
employees when it was newly-founded, the
company now has 1,000 employees, not
including the part-time resellers.
35
Challen
ge Currently, the company is facing challenges
Yourself
that need immediate attention. First, there is
an issue about the composition of the
company’s products, which some groups claim
to have an ingredient that is harmful to
people.
36
Second, the employees have staged a protest
Challen and are planning to go on strike by not
ge
Yourself reporting for work and barricading all the
entrances of the company’s main office,
production plants, and distribution centers
because the company refused to approve their
request for a salary increase and better
benefits during the collective bargaining
agreement (CBA) negotiation.
37
Challen
ge A CBA is a negotiation process between the
Yourself
management and the employees for matters
concerning employee salaries, benefits, hours,
and terms of employment. This is when the
employees may demand better salary and
compensation benefits.
38
The above challenges have threatened the
Challen
ge stability of the company. The negative
Yourself
publicity on their products might affect their
sales as the customers might believe the
information circulating on the Internet about
the harmful ingredients, which is untrue and
was only spread by malicious people.
39
Second, the pending strike of the employees
Challen
ge will surely stop operations and would result in
Yourself
a delay in the production and distribution of
their products. Katrina knows that she needs
to act fast; otherwise, K Cosmetics might lose
its customers and profits due to the halt of
operations.
40
Challen
ge You were hired by Katrina as the business
Yourself
consultant. Your job is to analyze the root
cause of the problem and provide a
recommendation to Katrina on how to
address the challenges. Read and answer
the questions that follow:
