Basic Computer Maintenance
Computer maintenance
and systems cleaning are
routine activities conducted in
computers to keep it working
properly and its entire system
run more smoothly.
These
practices can keep
computers run
longer and avoid the
damage potential
parts and expensive
repairs and
eventually reduce
Routine maintenance which is
also known as Preventive
maintenance is performed on a
regular basis to keep computer in
top shape, to keep things working
well and reduce the chance of
something to go wrong while using
it.
Dust and debris can clog
computer fans and ports which
reduces air flow, forms a
“blanket” on internal
components that traps heat, and
prevents hardware from
maintaining a solid connection.
Desktop computers are
generally very easy to clean since it
has parts that can be detached like
the removable side panel or
removable front panel that comes off
with just a few screws. Once
separated , cleaning is as easy as
taking a compressed air or a vacuum
on it to blow air outwards from the
inside.
Laptops, unlike
desktop computers can be
more quite challenging
since most people cannot
thoroughly clean the parts
because its computer parts
are not removal or cannot
be taken off easily.
Procedures in Basic
Maintenance and Systems
Cleaning
First, turn off and unplug
your computer. It is also necessary to
allow all parts to cool down and be
handled delicately when cleaning.
A. Clean your computer
regularly.
Computer keyboard
Procedure:
1. Unplug the
keyboard.
2. Turn the
keyboard upside
down.
3. Shake it to remove dirt and
dust.
4. Blow compressed air to clean
between the keys.
5. Clean the top of
the keys using
soft cloth.

6. Reconnect the
keyboard to the
computer once it
is dry.
Computer Screen/Monitor
Procedure:

1. Unplug the
computer screen.
2. Wipe with a
soft cloth.
3. Let it dry.

Procedures:
1. Dust computer
casing using
cloth.
2. Blow dusts

vents and fans.
