 How many times then we recite it?
 How many times do we care about it?
 Do we show our respect, love?
 Do we read it with an understanding?
 Is it the responsibility of only the Scholars?
 Aren’t we responsible, if we neglected on the day of Judgment?

INTRODUCTION OF HOLY QUR’AN

 The Quran is the last revealed Book of Allah. It is a word-by-word record of Allah’s communication
with Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him and His Household) His last Messenger on earth.
The Divine Message called Revelation (Wahi), was brought by the Angel Jibrail (Gabriel) from time
to time over a period of 23 years.
 Holy Qur’an is divided into 30 equal Chapters
 Which consists of 114 Surahs.
 Out of 114 Surahs, 86 Surahs were revealed when Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him
and His Household) was in Meeca
 28 Surahs were revealed when Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him and His Household) was in Madina.
Each Chapter covers various aspects like rules and restrictions, rewards and the punishment.
 It was revealed in 23 years (22 years,2months,22 days Gradual Revelation)
The longest chapter of the Qur’an is Surah Baqarah (The Cow) with 286 verses and the
shortest is Surah Al-Kawther (abundance) which has 3 verses.
 The arrangement of surahs does not correspond to the chronological order in which they
were revealed
 Holy Quran is the finest piece of literature available in the world in Arabic language. It is
the only book in the world that is in its original form after its revelation 1400 years ago.
 Quran Majeed is the last Holy book and there will be no Holy book after it and it is the book
for all the people in the world. It also attests previous Holy Books and the Prophets.
THE FIRST REVELATION

Prophet Muhammad(Peace Be Upon Him and His Household)

received his first revelation in the cave of Hira where he
spent lot of time worshipping Allah.
The revelation of Quran started when Prophet
Muhammad(Peace Be Upon Him and His Household) was 40
years old and it ends when his age was approximately 63
years.
The first Revelation was (Surah 96 Al-'Alaq, The Clot Ayat 1-
5)
(96:1) Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, (96:2)
created man from a clot of congealed blood. (96:3) Recite:
and your Lord is Most Generous, (96:4) Who taught by the
pen, (96:5) taught man what he did not know.
MODE OF REVELATIONS

Quran was revealed by Allah through Jibrael (Gabriel). But most people do not know all the
ways through which the Quran was revealed. Here are a few ways in which this glorious book
was revealed by Allah.
1.In the form of dreams
2.Sometimes, it was revealed directly in the heart of the Holy Prophet
3.One of the common ways of revelation is that the Jibrael brought the revelation in the form
of an ordinary man
4.Revelation through Jibreel in his true form
 5.Sometimes, Allah directly communicated with the Prophet Muhammad and revealed
some verses on him
THE GRADUAL REVELATION

Wisdom behind gradual revelation

INIMITABILITY OF THE QURAN

The Quran is considered the Greatest miracle.

“And if you are in doubt concerning that which We have sent down to Our slave,
then produce a chapter of the like thereof and call your witnesses (supporters and
helpers) besides Allah, if you are truthful” (2:23)
“Say, Bring you then ten chapters like unto it, and call whomsoever you can, other
than God, if you speak the truth!” (11:13)
In the verses cited, Prophet Muhammad’s opponents are invited to try to produce a text like
the Qur’an, or even ten chapters, or even a single chapter. But the challenge has not been
met.
EXEGESES
(AL-TAFSEER) OF QUR’AN

 The word ‘tafsir’ comes from the root word ‘fassara’, which means to expound or to explain.
Therefore, Tafsir of Quran means the explanation or interpretations of the verses of Quran
 These are the two major types
 1. Tafsir bil Ma’sur:
 It is the first type of Tafsir, in which explanation of the verses of Quran is made through
different transmission sources. In These sources
 First source Quran itself, where explanation is done by referring to other ayahs of Quran that
speak of the same subject matter.
 Second source is the traditions of Prophet (PBUH), where His said and done things shed light on the
meaning of verses of Quran.
 Thirdly, it is the explanation of verses of Quran done by the Companions of Prophet Muhammad
(Peace Be Upon Him and His HouseHold).
2. Tafsir bil Ray:
 It is the second kind of Tafsir of Quran, which although is not based on the
transmission of knowledge, rather it is based on reasoning and what is called
‘ijtihad’. The thing to note is that Ijtihad does not mean abrupt or random interpretations,
rather it is done by comparing the verses, traditions and sayings of the renowned
Companions of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him and His Household)
 Thus, by this comparison and contrast, scholars reason and reach a particular
interpretation of the verses of Quran.
ASBAB AL-NUZUL (OCCASION OF REVELATION)

Studying Asbab al-Nuzul or events which are related to Revelation of the Ayats, helps to
understand the Quran and its law.
Hukm (law) is not limited to the events or circumstances.

Benefit of knowing Occasion of Revelation
