Title Understanding Network Transmission Media
Learning objectives:
• To understand the characteristics of different wired
and wireless transmission media, their advantages,
disadvantages, and how they transmit signals
Success criteria:

✔ Describe how wireless and wired

transmission media work.
✔ Compare the physical
characteristics of different media.
✔ Explain how signals are carried
through each medium.
Possible misconceptions and barriers:
•🚫All wireless technologies function the same way.
•Correction: Wireless media differ in range, speed, and
interference resistance.
Discussion
• 💬 students:
• How does Wi-Fi reach your phone?
• Why do some people use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi?
• How do satellites send internet signals to remote areas?
Wireless Transmission Media
Wired Transmission Media
Tasks
• 2️⃣Guided Research one wired and one wireless
• research a transmission medium (e.g., satellite vs. fibre
optic) and present:
• How it transmits data – in more detail
• Advantages and disadvantages we already did this…..
• Example usage (e.g., rural internet, gaming, businesses)
3️⃣Debate: Wired vs. Wireless
(10 min)
• Class splits into two teams:
• Team Wired argues why wired networks are better.
• Team Wireless argues why wireless networks are
better.
📌Plenary:
