I. Introduction
 Blindness is a condition characterized by the loss of vision, either partially or completely. the biggest
challenge faced by blind person is mobility. In order to avoid this impact we proposed a project for
designing an Ultrasonic blind walking stick for the simplicity of there navigation through any
environment.

 The designed waking stick consists of 3 Ultasonic sensors, NODEMCU, 2buzzers and Bluetooth.

 Ultrasonic sensors – for sensing the obstacles in b/n (2cm-450cm).

 NODEMCU – send signal for the blind person if the distance is closer.

 Buzzers – receive the signal from NODEMCU and interference with the blind person.

 Bluetooth module – help the blind person to find the stick wherever it is placed.

 The simplicity of the proposed design makes it easy to use ,having low coast of manufacturing & low
power consumption.

Objectives of the project
I. General objective: To develop an ultrasonic blind walking stick
that can assist visually impaired individuals in navigating their
surroundings safely and independently.
II. Specific objectives:
 To design a compact and portable ultrasonic sensor system.
 To integrate the ultrasonic sensor system with a microcontroller.
 To incorporate audio and/or tactile feedback mechanisms.
 To develop a user-friendly interface.
 To conduct user testing and gather feedback.

Scope and limitations of the project
I. Scope:
 Research and development of an ultrasonic blind walking stick.
 Detection of obstacles and provision of haptic feedback to the user.
 Improving mobility and independence for blind individuals.
II. Limitations:
 Funding constraints.
 Technical challenges.
 The device may not be suitable for all types of obstacles or
environments.
 User acceptance and adoption may be limited by factors.

II. Literature review
 Overview of existing technologies:

• Traditional white cane

• Electronic travel aids (ETA) & Guidance of dog

 Ultrasonic sensors are commonly used in electronic travel aids for blind individuals.

 Using Ultrasonic sensor have many advantages and disadvantages.

 Advantages: Accuracy, Non-contact, Versatility & low power consumption.

 Disadvantage: limited range, interference, Blind spots & high coast.

There are some technical parameters for selecting Ultrasonic sensors, like:

 Frequency & detection range, power consumption, size/weight, Env’tal conditions, Interface &
coast

III. Methodology
 Research and development process:
In this process some steps are included ;
 Identify needs of blind individuals
 Conduct market research.
 Develop & test prototype.
 Refine the design & Obtain regulatory approvals.
 Launch & market the product.
 Prototyping & testing phase is already included on the dev’t process.
 At the last we have data collection and analysis which includes:
 Defining problem, identify relevant data source, collecting, organizing &
cleaning data, analyzing and finally we have interpret & present findings.

IV. Implementation plan
 Our implementation plan includes: the planned timeline, budget and resources.

 the planned timeline & Milestone:

 we plan to design our project in 12 weeks by performing:

• Defining the research question or problem(1), Identifying relevant data

sources(2),Collecting data(3), Organizing and cleaning data(1), Analyzing data(3),
Interpreting results(1), Presenting findings(1).

 The budget is putted on the proposal as previously designed project.

 The resources will be: engineers, designers, project managers, material & components,

travel & expenses…..etc.

V. Expected outcomes and impacts

 As we put the outcomes and impacts of our project:

 It will Improved mobility and independence for blind individuals.

 improve the potential commercialization of opportunities.

 it have social and economic benefits for those who are visually impaired

communities.

12/11/2023 11
VI. Conclusion
 As a conclusion the project aims to develop a smart walking stick for blind

individuals that incorporates advanced technologies such as sensors, GPS,

and haptic feedback. The stick will provide real-time information about the
user's surroundings and alert them to potential obstacles.

 The project is expected to bring social and economic benefits such as

improved mobility and independence for blind individuals, job creation,

increased revenue for the company, and reduced healthcare costs associated
with falls and injuries.
